  • Steering wheels to clip ons - story of 'graduating' to two wheels

A quick glance at most threads on xbhp is all that it takes to reveal that the average age of members here is pretty low, at least for the ones who are taking to two wheels for the first time. So it was not without a huge amount of trepidation that I have taken my first few - well actually I have already ridden my brand new bike of two weeks for 1400 kms already, but lets keep the poetic line of thought going for a wee bit, should we? - steps in the world of countersteering, cornering, lean angles, whew!! Its a lot to take in!

Have always been a car nut, well actually anything that moved on 4 wheels. Had given the world of 2 wheelers pretty much a go by for the first 3 odd dozen years of my life (unless you count cycling in 4th grade ) more by a quirk of fate than anything else. Was looking for something more after having wandered the length and breadth of the land, hopped on to a hired motorcycle in Goa a year back (an Electra it was of all mcycles!) had a minor fall but the knee and elbow scraper didn't prove to be much of a deterrent in my quest to have a rocket between my legs

Spent a year researching, test riding, hemming and hawing (what with a family, EMIs, a boring job - in short everything that should successfully throw a spanner in your motorcycling works) and finally the wife could take it no more and threatened a kick up my backside if I didn't either saddle up or paddle up the daily chatter I was subjecting her to.

So here I am, paid up for a Yamaha R15 S (the single seat to keep the wife happy on those occasional two up rides) Completed the running in in about a weeks time and cant have enough of riding her. Great to be a part of a community which shares a passion that I now has me enthralled
