However, of late the biking bug has bitten me big time. I got a new cycle around Diwali to stay fit and Ive been having a blast on it. It got me thinking about getting a two wheeler as it would make my office commute easier because of the crazy traffic in Mumbai and of course its easier to find parking too which is almost impossible at my workplace nowadays.
I will be joining classes and getting my two wheeler license soon which will be a whole new learning experience at the age of 31 but Im determined to do it. I have done a decent bit of reading and watched a few videos but I would appreciate any tips you guys can give a first timer. I would also like to learn a bit more on maintenance and bike parts at a basic level because I keep coming across stuff like tappet clearance and setting the idling rpm, etc which I am kind of unfamiliar with but it seems important and I would like to know more. I dont like to leave everything in the hands of the SC and mechanics and would love to learn more just as I have with my cars.
Now to my other dilemma. While I will be learning and getting my license on a geared bike, I think my first bike should be a gearless scooter. I feel this way I can fully concentrate on the learning process of riding, maneuvering and felling comfortable in traffic after leaving the secure feeling of a car with all the crazy stuff we find on our roads. Also the convenience of not having to fiddle with clutch and gears is also a plus. What do you guys think ? Is my thought process sound ?
One small obstacle in my way is unfortunately my wife. She has always wanted to learn how to ride a bike properly since a long time so shes kind of excited by my new interest. The only problem is shes COMPLETELY against gearless scooters, except possibly the Navi and thinks they are lame and 'aunty' types and wants 'us' to get a proper geared bike. For the reasons I mentioned above, I prefer a scooter. Especially if she is going to learn on it also and she is 5'3" and a little clumsy/easily distracted so I am worried for her safety. I would appreciate xBhp's advice on this unique problem

Also, bikes I am considering are the Aprilia SR 150, Honda Navi and if its launched soon and has better equipment, the 125cc Navi Go
