  • TVS Apache 180 2015 new to the scene!

I would first like to say hello to everyone and thanks for having me. My name is Tom and I am from New York, and am an English teacher living in Bogota Colombia.I love riding and seeing the country side when I'm not teaching.

At home in the states I had a full garage. Working on engines was a hobby. Since being in Colombia (6 Years) I really havent been able to get my hands dirty lol.

These days I am getting an itch, And I need to work on my engine.
The idea I have is to fully tune my 180 to get as close to the 200 as I can meaning-

    The Apache 200 is 197.75 cm3 Apache 180- 177.4cm3

    Bore- 66mm 62.5

My question???? How far can I bore the 180 to get as close to or match the 200 ?? Is possible?

    Apache 200 compression- 97.0.5:1 Apache 180- 9.5, 0.5:1

Also- change piston to increase compression to 11:1 Is this ok? will the block handle it?

Upgrade carburetor The 200 has a Keihin CV I need to see if the apertures are the same size to switch out or just by one if there are recommendations I am happy to listen.

the 200 is 4 valve, the 180 2 valve. I Need to see what I can do to upgrade to 4 valve , better cam, valves. port and polish valves and intake\exhaust.

Install Oil cooler for added cooling
    Install tunable exhuast
Does any of this make sense?
Opinions matter Thank you all for your time. I hope my forum manners are ok and sorry in advance if i miss posted in the wrong area.

      Hello Tom, welcome to xBhp.

I would like to add from what I understood from this forum, that modifying these simple machines is not just going to involve a lot of your time but also money. With the same amount of money you could possible get a pre-owned bigger/better bike, and you'd save time. Also, this way, you'll save time, which could be better spent on using the bike to travel and have adventures. You could also get a brand new bike. And these bikes being in stock conditions, will be easier and cheaper to maintain.

Modifying these basic bikes is doable if you're willing to get some fun out of it, like a project. You have an old bike and you want to have some fun with modifying. Otherwise, you are better off investing your time and money elsewhere if you're looking for better performance.

The blood and sweat is a part of it. I will buy a used 180 motor or 200 (if can fit) and fully tune it as a project. Then swap it into the bike. Less downtime for the bike. Lots of options. But definitely need to get my hands dirty and smell some nitro haha. Just need to figure out what is actually possible.

Is there a forum specific to custom work on apache motors? mine is 180 . I would love to talk to someone who is knowledgeable about tuning out motors.
