  • New to India and missing the AT!

    Hey folks,

Recently move back to India, specifically BLR. Great to read that it is the most congested city in the world. How funny is life!

Anyway, I have loved adventure riding ever since I can remember. I grew up watching camel trophy, an insane race across the rain forests of Indonesia or the deserts of Argentina. My dream is to do the ride from Alaska all the way to the tip of South America, come up through Africa, Europe and make my way to India.

To prep myself for this ride (fantasy you say, I would find it hard to disagree), I got myself an Africa Twin in 2017. Decision into AT was simple, I liked the DCT and the price point. A used GS 1200 would cost $20k fully loaded, and I got my AT at $10k. DCT made off road easier allowing me to push myself into areas I otherwise would not and it has probably spoilt me beyond recovery. Another thing towards prepping was to take multi-week trips across the west coast of the US. Some of these were alone, some in groups. Some had little bit of tar and some only dirt. It was a glorious experience. I learnt what it is to light your own fire, change your tube (yes yes, AT does not have tubeless) in the middle of a massive forest, slide on dirt, get over boredom which accompanied me in these trips and so much more.

Moving to India, I realize that an AT would be perfect. DCT would be a boon in BLR and the huge front tire would be a boon for any sort of touring. Also, I miss my AT. The comfort, the joy I felt, the small victories I had overcoming challenges. Oh man, I want that here. So I am on the look out for a used AT here. if anyone has a lead or knows anyone who owns an AT right now, please do holler!

Otherwise, before going for a gainful employment I am looking to do a 3-5 week tour around India. If I can score an AT, that would be beautiful, otherwise might wicked ride it. Looking forward to your help in this process of discovery!

    Onwards (with the rubber down!)

    Thread approved.

Hello and welcome to the family.

The Africa Twin is a wonderful motorcycle and the photos are just... Being motorcyclists, we can understand the feeling of not having your motorcycle around...

We hope you get your hands on one soon.

    Keep riding and ride safe.
