  • Dreaming of a GQ ride with eyes wide open!

    Fellow riders,

I am Subhash, age 30, married to Kanchan for almost 4 years now, used-to-be-a-biker-then-turned-a-car-person-yearning-to-ride-again kinda person.

Learnt riding on my Uncle's Bajaj M80 back in 1994, crashed it the very first day I rode but soon realised riding came quite naturally. Could not afford to get a bike in college but got infrequent chances to ride bikes of college-mates. Splendor, Caliber, Shogun (it sure was a rocket!), RX-Z have riden all what came my way back then.

Bought my first bike in 2003, a Yamaha Enticer and rode it for a year. My Uncle's M80 was by now in tatters and he needed a bike, so I sent the Enticer to him and got myself a Bullet Electra in Aug 2004. That set the ball rolling for the tourer in me. I rode with the Pune Bullet club to various place in the two years I was with them. Saputara, Mahableshwar (I've lost count how many times I've been there now ), Dajipur and tons of places around Pune. My most memorable ride was in late 2005 when I rode from Pune to Hyderabad solo! During my short stint in Hyderabad, I rode to some beautiful places like Nagarjuna Sagar and Warangal. Came back to Pune in early 2006 (by this time I was married) and the lure of the car was too much to resist, being a family man now . I sold the Bullet and its one decision I regret even till date!

I bought a Citibike in mid-2007, but I was not the same anymore. The biker was long dead and buried somewhere in memory! I never quite enjoyed riding it so much like I did in the past. The driver had cast a spell on the rider. I sold off the Citibike to a close friend and confidante in mid-2008

It might sound quite abrupt, but the urge to ride is back. A couple of months back, I got back the Citibike from my friend (he wasn't using it quite often). And that's when it struck to me. To bring the biker, I need to do what I did best. Tour!

So, here I am nurturing a long-time dream of riding the much fancied Golden Quadrilateral. I have been through some of the GQ stretches (NH4 and NH2) in my car back in 2007 and the tarmac is to die for! But this I'm going the full hog! The motorcycle will be the Citibike, I have to get a few things right on the bike before I embark on my ambitious ride.

My apologies for such a lengthy autobiographical introduction. The GQ ride is in planning phase and it is shared on my blog.
The detailed route: 30Pluss: Golden Quadrilateral Ride... The detailed route

As of now, the plan is to ride solo. But two is company, as they say . So if the idea sounds interesting to someone, send me a pm. The tentative plan is to start the ride from Pune on 25th Dec 2009 and come back to Pune on 15th Jan 2010.

    Happy riding till then.
    -Subhash

P.S: I wish to start a dedicated thread about the GQ ride, I hope the moderators are alright with the idea.
