Actually people can do both. Go to Lonavala, have breakfast and return to Pune by 10 am. i.e. if someone wishes to do so.

Just to clarify I have not been on a single out of town ride since our Dhom Dam ride. Heard of some others going off to some exotic destinations though.

        • Need some advice on service centr, spares here in Pune

          Hi Friends/Riders/Bulleteers,
I own Standard 1996 model and looking for the good parts and service centre here in Pune.

          1. What type of Silencer was originally used in Standard 1996 model. May be a naive question but eager to know it
          2. Where can I buy new spares here in Pune (heard about Nanapeth but where exacly). I am planning to get the service done with changing Silencer, Front Rim with Spokes, Front Leg guard and some other small stuff. I am kind of new here in Pune.

Moderator this my first post/questionaire seeking help. Pardon the mistakes and intervene if neccessary.

          Kindly help. Thanks in advance

trustvishwas. Nice pics. And an excellent effort by the participants. The targets seem to be placed at a distance greater than the effective range of the weapon causing the bullet (here pellet) to tumble at the end of its trajectory and striking the target at an angle - the tearing of the paper in one direction after impact is a dead give-away. In any case, the weapons being air-guns, one cannot expect much accuracy from them, especially if the barrel is not rifled. Did the firers get any coaching on holding, aiming and trigger operation prior to the live fire?

Wish I could have joined in...

The targets were placed at 10 meter distance. So it was within effective range. The targets were held in clips. Due to pressure of clips, the bottom half was bending slightly. This is why you see tearing of paper.

First portion of session was devoted to range safety briefing, then participants were trained for holding, aiming, trigger operation etc. (Most of the participants were fatigued by just holding the air rifle for 15 minutes ) Then only they were permitted to fire.

Everyone was told to forget about hitting bullseye. If he/she could get good grouping of all shots, that was good. However, as can be seen by some photos, the accuracy was quite good.

Discipline was maintained in the range so non shooters / waiting bakar group were herded into a hall next door.

Rifling is the process of making helical grooves in the barrel of a gun or firearm. This spins the projectile on its axis making for a truer aim. Oiling and cleaning is usually done for all firearms whether rifled or not.

Instructor knew your potential (or lack thereof
) so he asked you to keep rolling till you got out of academy.

Hahaha... "those grooves are called muffler or muffle something. Grooves are there to let the gas escape" . ( Quoting my instructor) Lack of potential was clearly visible when i was asked to give demo to fellow cadets as a break out of punishment.

Btw there is a specific hindi term for people who play with air rifles ..... maar......chidiya.... Chidi maar

This is what wiki says - Rifling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rifling is the process of making helical grooves in the barrel of a gun or firearm, which imparts a spin to a projectile around its long axis. This spin serves togyroscopically stabilize the projectile, improving its aerodynamic stability and accuracy.

@trustvishwas. Perfect answers for a rolling stone (aka GT007) that gathers no moss! Rifling is also used in tank main guns for all but sabot ammunition. The need is the same - spin-stabilisation. Sabots rely on fins for the same function.

I have used air rifles only at fairs - to demo shooting those pellets at balloons for my kids. All my service weapon training has been on service arms - pistols, carbines, assault rifles, machine guns and anti-tank weapons. My personal favourite is the original Russian AK-47 and my least loved is the 106 mm RCL. Good old days, those were...
