thanks a trillion for posting this. I just dont get the concept of pushing everything related to a crash under the carpet. This practice of hushing up crashes is so rampant that one never learns anything out of them.Originally posted by nav75 View PostAnyone of Pune guys from here were at Lavasa on Sunday morning?

If someone gets a kneee down we advertise it and let the whole world know but if someones crashing then we dont speak about it. Why ? Its almost as if crashing is something to be ashamed of...something illegal.
Whoever was at lavasa this sunday would tell you how pissed we all were. Things were just unacceptable. Riders were racing insisting on killing themselves and killing others. I hereby declare that if anyone insists on eating death then i can get my 9mm and shoot him between the eyes. But dont fcukin kill me along with your suicidal pathetic moronic riding.
Riding is for fun guys... its also to get to know new and varied ppl...its a fraternity..its a world that we create for ourselves...ITS NOT FOR ADRENALINE. The track is for adrenaline...and if the track is too far then we have all had the ill luck of being born far away from the track. We cant help it and we shouldnt help it by being dickheads on the street.
We had to give up on a good hour of our safety drills and practice runs cause some morons were thinkin riding is flying. To most of them the whole road was their line and were often into the oncoming lane. Such madness...zero maturity...I may not go to lavasa now, not for the fear of my life but for the fear of having blood on my hands if I see someone into my lane heading straight towards me at 80 kmph and then only a few meters ahead of me one suddenly changes the lane into his own. Thats not a close shave..thats death for me right there.
This incident needs to be discussed to death for awareness has to be created and lessons have to be learnt.
SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY...yours mine and his. SAFETY FIRST....
Buying superlative gear is nonsense if u are disrespecting speed on a motorcycle. It was and will always be the most dangerous vehicle and inherently is a very risky sport.
There are guys who think they earn a lifetimes supply of adrenaline when doing insane speed than what an average joe earns in his entire lifetime. Ppl put such things into their signatures. I mean WTF. Have youn even lost your mind.
After sunday we were all into a mode of retrospection and tbh we still are. We are convinced that pune xBHPians are perhaps the safest of all the other clans out there who smoke angels for lunch. Sorry If i come accross as a disser or hater to anyone. Sorry..but that is a freakin fact.
We need a brotherhood of riders and we need to come together to sit down and discuss the issues and the risks attached with motorcycling at lavasa. Our manufacturers set a fine example for us. A code of conduct..an unsaid understanding amongst them all that speeds over 300 are pointless and we aint gonna manufacture those speeds out of our factories.
We need to reach some understanding too. Its not funny anymore and I refuse to ride to lavasa on a weekly basis untill such a step is taken.
P.S 1 : sorry I am worked up but if you had been there you would have also felt nothing but an utter sense of a tragedy which befell a poor soul to whom lord be kind and may he rest in peace ! After about a day..the more I think of it the angrier I get.
P.S 2 : Btw if you didnt know,
the guy who crashed wasnt being rash nor did he ram into anything. He was also geared including knee gaurds and gloves. He was also wearing an open face helmet. Nor did he crash because someone had a shaved into him very close. The way it happened is actually the saddest part of it. His wheels have had some cracks in the alloy since about a week and it is speculated that they worsend over the course of time giving way at 12:45 pm. Surely the wheel collapsing will unsettle the bike beyond any retrievable control.
Cracks were developed as the bike had (violently?) jumped over an unseen speed breaker at some speed a week ago or so. Now the given the state of speed breakers which are just sprinkled around the city without any warning boards make it a seemingly true speculation.Last edited by TenHut; 02-09-2010, 01:49 AM.sigpic

Just to add few thoughts of mine.
One doesn't have to wait for someone to die to learn about the risks involved with riding any motorized vehicle. If you are given the permission by govt (in form of DL) and trusted by your parents and given you the vehicle and permission to use it, it is assumed by them that you have the maturity to be aware of the risks involved with it. Remember, they didn't let you use it as soon as you were able to walk.
I don't see a reason why one would push the vehicle to a point where chances of crashing are high (though there can be exceptions like oil on the road), forget getting killed.
The other day I was riding in city when this young guy with his g/f (probably) was zipping through the crowded road as if he was the only one on road. Scaring the female sitting pillion (one could hear her scream) and needless to say no protective gear. I mean, what kind of a retard that guy would be who was willing to have someone whom he loves, scream with fear? When I asked him at the traffic signal why was he riding like that, his reply was that's how he rides. I was left speechless.
Just see that link about the Keith Code's school getting held at Chennai. Even they have mentioned, you crash and you are out of the school and no refund. A riding school isn't expecting you to crash on a race track, that too when you are learning. And people ride on public roads thinking they are wearing the best protective gear so its ok if they crash, they will be saved?
A random thought, can someone make it compulsory (if its already not there), to have both the RVMs on bike, in a functional state, present to be able to ride with the group? To me RVM's and being able to use them correctly is a must have for safe riding on road.

RVMs have already been made compulsory for all our Pune xbhp rides and so is proper documentation and protective gear which includes helmet, shoes elbow guards/ armoured jacket, knee guards and gloves. Unless you have all of the above you are not allowed to join in for the ride.Originally posted by nav75 View Post

I absolutely agree that our group is THE SAFEST group I have seen till date. In fact, that is the reason for me sticking around. Anyone present @ lavasa on sunday would vouch that some people there were entering blind corners at insane speeds. This kind of behaviour is stupid and not tolerable.Originally posted by TenHut View Post

I personally feel that riding to lavasa at the same time as other groups without them understanding some basic safety concepts has suddenly turned very very dangerous.
@ nav75 - Unless we shove it up the nose, most of the guys will not be mature to understand the consequences of a crash. When you ride a bike, you don't think about crash or about dying. You ride to enjoy pure riding pleasure. However, unless it is made clear what the consequences may be, I don't think that majority are going to understand.
Here I am not talking just about xBhp but all the riding groups here.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

well said rohan..i guess one should judge and understand to what extent he should take himself and his bike at that given moment... riding is for pleasure and is not worth dying for...this perticular may not be the case but generally i hav observed that new kids want to do it (stunts, cornering etc.) rather than learning ,understanding it.... they fail to understand that riding is not just siting on bike twisting throttle and copying from others.. ur every action on bike is ruled purely by physics and geometry human pscyche....energies forces and all such things...
Having RVMs, safty gear documents is a good thing...imagine whats the use of it if one doesnt care abt the others, he has RVMs but doesnt have respect for others what if he doesnt understand that guy he just crashed into had someone depending on him..kids wife. imagine i have all best available safty gear in the world all the schools instructers..best engineered bike around me..now "how can i become skilled mature safe rider???" the answer is a little thing weighing 300-400gms may be...ur brain.. u can be a better rider only if ur brain is performing at optimum level in terms of reflexes data analysis and on Emotional level..if u have rude emotions towards others, are overexited overconfident while riding ur are not n rider leave alone good or best rider...one should always think what if i crash into someone? while thinking one is not scared..i too think like this ... i think upon what if i die or injured what will happen to my family?what if same happens with other guy?ur life is not only urs its ur family's life also...i u die a part of their life also dies.
these are my personal opinions.Last edited by rohitlc; 02-09-2010, 12:16 PM.sigpic

My only advice to all the lavasa goers..
Pls. quit going there, otherwise such things are bound to happen and u'll never be able to forgive urself if any such thing happens to our group members. All the theory part which was discussed here today..has been discussed with all in personal too many times(and u know it, probably older ppl might know this). So, practically there's no use discussing such things which stays put only for 1-2 rides and then we are back to square one. So, there's only one solution to all of this.."Pls. quit going there"..
Its just my advice, i cant enforce this on anyone..its one's choice..
Take Care,
Inder

can anyone shed light on what happened exactly?
As I understand,in this particular case the alloys were damaged leading to loss of control.
That means the condition of vehicle being an important aspect was also neglected.
Also did the pour soul lost his life only because of this or also due to negligent riding.
As I understand even on a normal road incidents such as tyre burst, alloys breaking, brake levers falling off occur but don't result in fatal injuries.
lastly senior pune guys who are close with RSA founders may also feel to do a joint excercise to enforce the importance of safety & more importantly sanitysigpic

that is a real sad news ...
I agree with you guys on being responsible on road.
Last time when I crashed at Amby , I was so glad that I came out unharmed.
Later , when i reached home , my dad asked me just 3 questions- Are you hurt?Is anyone else hurt because of you?Is the bike ok?
The 2nd question made me think how foolish I had been. Risking others' life for fulfilling your insanity is unacceptable and unforgivable.
My condolences for the spiritless rider's family.sigpic
