Dear touring heavyweight,

I shall take it as great kindness in you, if you could, in any capacity of yours, help me out in understanding that legendary bad stretch of road from Hubli to chitradurga on the otherwise fantastic NH4.
I shall be riding down to chennai via banglore and find myself in an urgent need of an answer to the question..
Is that 'god forsaken pain in the ass ' Chitradurga-Hubli stretch any better since last year Feb or has it gone worse now?'

You can help me divert my attention to anything else that you may think is important when trying to do the Pune Chennai ride but please answer that one question asked above.

P.S : Ninja riders please chime in.

It was much better than the last time i rode it (that was in April 2010). THe latest one was on Jan10th 2011 on my trip to Kerala.
THe number of diversions have reduced significantly and more over u dont have to cross through Ranebannur town. You still have that railway crossing in the middle of the NH. May god have mercy on your soul if you are in a leather suit and waiting at the crossing (i was wearing one!!)
THere is still a stretch of bad road (<3kms, dont remember the exact location though) whihc you might have to ride patiently. There are occasional lane merges (wherein u have to drive on the opp side of the road). Other wise its pretty much a breeze.
Took 11 hours (incl of all breaks and brakes) to get from Chandni chowk to Kanakpura.

So the CBR should take you to Blore in 11/4 = 2.75 hours (Ninja =250cc, CBR =1000cc. So CBR should be able to travel four times faster )

Its still bad enough to not be done during the night. You can easily do it during the day. Just keep scanning for surprise rim-wrecking speed breakers.

He should be six times faster on the CBR (185+ bhp) than on a Ninja 250 (32 odd bhp)

@tenHut... NH4 any day... last time we did this stretch whjile returning from Bangalore... we didnt feel tht it was that bad.... yup but be careful of invisible speed breakers in that "popular" stretch

@TenHut.. Hey remember me! Met you at McD's after Pune, I was riding to Bangalore and you had cautioned be about that stretch.

Well it's seriously not as bad as you had described to me! True, less than 5kms of going off the highway (uneven roads), entering some city (Harihar or Davanagere, not sure), which is easy to exit (right from the main signal, ask any local), and back on the highway!

Those few kms would be a pain, but then they are less than 100 and the red mud is gone

This is due to the rising cost of petrol every month. Please provide feedback on what would be the most fuel efficient bike/scooter.

Discover 100 is the most Fuel efficient 2-wheeler in the market today. Alternatively.. you can try Yo-EXLR (?? I think) E-Scoot. Has a decent top speed of 55kmph and does a range of 60km in a single charge. (So it qualifies for you 32km daily requirement too). And since it is electric.. the torque spread and refinement is muuch muuch better than any petrol engined counterpart..

Charging is an issue my friend. I live on the fourth floor and don't have any means to charge it in my parking on the ground floor..
