    • Hey guys, my office mates are planning or riding down to ooty for the next weekend.

Any tips/pointers? It would be my first ride to Ooty too.

Especially need help regarding, shortest/easiest route, coz mostly everyone is a first time rider to such a long distance. Also need info about places where one can take breaks etc, wats the usual time one takes to do this trip? best time to start, etc etc....

Just make sure after you cross the TN border, take the left way rather than the right road. It has a set of steep twisties, it'll make your ear go sap within 2 minutes of climbing . Also it is much more scenic. Also, it is shorter than the other road, which is kinda full with mini buses. When I went, there was a break for breakfast in Mysore. Then directly Ooty. You can stop in Bandipur if you want. If you go slow, you might get to see wild-elephants, deers, etc.

        P.S:- Take a very good camera .

To be precise, it is near mudumalai forest .. before gundlupet i suppose.. and definately the forest site is quite scenic.. best time wud be 4am from bangalore.. so that you catch up with wildlife at 6 to 7am.. thats when the nature is at its best.. and you drive through a cool climate !!

After crossing mysore.. towards gundlupet, theres a Royal Hotel (I suppose) owned by a malayali which serves good parota and roti .. of course there are quite a few dhabas/hotels ahead in the same route.. but the route from mysore till TN border is a real pain in the ass.. so take care about tht to reach the place just when there is enuff light like 6am.. and then climb up from the forest by 7 am .. in this way i hope you can enjoy the trip

Yeah dude. Too much confusion. But I am still game for any G2G anywhere.
And hey, I thinks you gettings confused about Ooty

When you reach Theppakadu junction (mudumalai forest office), AFTER you have crossed into TN border, you will see two ways, BOTH that lead to Ooty.

The right takes you to Ooty through Gudalur, naduvattam, Pykarra falls. The left takes you through Masinagudi, kallahatty water falls to ooty. Both routes are scenic and have great views. The gudalur road is easy to drive and heavy vehicles prefer this road. The masinagudi road has 35 hairpin bends in a 15 km stretch and the road is very steep.

I recommend the left way if you are taking bikes. Also, praful, I referred to this link below before going. It has all the info you need regarding directions to Ooty from Bangalore.
