@Ram: The problem with ONE day ride is that you will not be having time to enjoy the nature. My friend did Horsley hills from Bangy. Bangalore - Horsley hills is like chennai - vellore + (approx. 160 kms).

More over, if we are doing in a group, we would be taking a lot of photos.
So, say a start by 5.00 a.m. means we can cover the route in sun light and may be have time to explore areas around Horsley.

Hope am talking something practically feasible.

There is also Forest guest house it seems.. Better & cheaper than Punnami resort..

I thought the whole process of booking the accommodation from APTDC would not only be convenient but also gives peace of mind, don't you think so? Unless if we have some booking information on the forest department guest house handy.

First, It's going to be a 250 kms ride. Atleast I would prefer to stay enjoy the weekend and be back at leisurely the next with out any hurry to return. It would be a break from bustling city environment. However, if few wishes to leave the same day can go ahead.

The Governer's Bunglow is what they call Punnami Guest House. I just checked the telephone numbers and it matched .

These guys use all sort of names to confuse innocent bikers like us.

With regards to Forest Guest house, I do not have any information and we are all set for Governor's Bunglow/Punnami Guest House.

              About horsley

              Hello friends,
Its nice to see a trip arranged to horsley hills. since I've been there, I'll just give an overall picture of what can be done there.

I just went for a trip with my friends at church... It was 2 day trip... Do not expect the climate to be chill.. It will be like the plains only... The best time to enjoy climate in horsley is morning 5'o clock to 9 or 10.. Then the sun will start to scorch.
The Gov. tourism hotel is pretty good and well maintaned. Hope you get the cottage booked along with goodies like unlimited time at swimming pool and complimentary meals(atleast 2)... The pool is too good to enjoy as small group.... There are also facility to do rope climbing, and some sort of rope walking between two tree tops... They are pretty costly though

So make sure you be there by around 10 or so... You can freak out till lunch there and take some rest post lunch... After the rest, swimming pool..... can enjoy till late evening... Next morning when the climate is at its best, can go for a trek to neighboring rocks and peaks..(atleast thats what we did)...

Nothing else.. can return post lunch the next day.

              Thats it... hope this helps

@Augustine09 - Thanks for sharing the information on this thread. I'm going through APTDC for the accommodation at Punnami Resort. They are pretty flat and the trarrif did not have any combo/offers listed you said. However, having said this, would again go and check for details.

@Uncle Amit: As per our discussion yesterday, the updates will be posted by Sri by wednesday. Think, the lodging part will come around INR 400/head. (rough calculation though).

There is also a Kaundinya national park nearby (Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

                          @Efunds
How about including an early morning ride to the place on sunday? Is it too late to include this in the itinerary?

And regarding the Climate, its not that cool a place. Middays can get hot.

It would be great to have a trek on sunday early morning (awesome time to see wildlife) and start for home from there? There is also a waterfalls nearby (forgot the name). These places are a stone's throw from Palamaner.

I think we may have to ask the warden for permission though.

We can discuss all the itinerary once the accommodation is finalized.

I shall call for a meeting coming weekend to discuss regarding the trip.

I'm giving few more days before I could take the final count.
