  • cost of ownership- ninja as an example

well how cheap it is to own a 3 lakhs bike if you go in for a loan. well i got some figures for you.

monthly installment or EMI for a 3 lakh loan repayable in 60 months - 7500/- approx

add insurance about - 12,000/ per year - or Rs 1000/- per month.

now your ninja will set you back by Rs 8500/- per month as ownership cost.

now service cost ,etc are extra.

most important - cost of your bike becoming obsolete - like yamaha r 15 which is clearly out dated and beaten blue is very high... KTM is going to be out so is honda with its 250 cc even a 350 bike for 3 lakhs cannot be ruled out especially from korea. except for a select few who can change or keep multiple super bikes, we have to live with what we have. every 6 months now on, there will be a bike launch in 250 cc and above category.

now guys see if you can own the green girl @ Rs 8500/- per month

hi,midnight rider bought a ninja and the comprehensive insurance on the bike is 5000 rs and next year it would be roughly rs 4000
if today i want to buy a bike with a budget of 3 lacs i'll buy a ninja and if i want to buy after 6 months then it would be great to have a choice.....
the question here is how long anybody is ready to wait to see the choices............
so guyz take a chill pill and go ahead and buy your bike as and when you want........

        till date there is no provision of a 100 percent loan on ninja {except a personal loan}
        WHY DRINK ND DRIVE..................
WHEN U CAN SMOKE ND FLY..............!!

@harikeshpk - interesting observation and calculation, but then why get into bikes if you wanna be set back by the costs encountered, better off running a 100cc economizer mate!!

And bikes become obsolete, that does not mean the owners start going nuts.. i mean if one bought a 2007 R1, and since now there is a 2009 and iirc a 2010 model coming, should he/would he sell it off??? no way mate... Its the same with cars.. you drive em to a life.. and then only you let go.. or keep driving...

either dunk in... or be left high and dry...

My offerings to the gods of speed -

+1 to the above. Btw if you are considering having the Ninja, be prepared for atleast 10K a month total outflow.

Interesting thread. I would say, "buying a bike is no big deal, but maintaining it is".

To add to it, Mumbai has only 2 service centers. U have to take a leave when u want to service it..

He mentioned loan in the 1st line itself dude...those who can pay 3 lakhs cash won't think too much about 3K a month for maintaining/running it!

P.S. I wish I were one of that kind!

With due respect sir, just because there are bikes out there with bigger and better engine and new models does not mean that r15 or any other bike is outdated. These things are going to happen.

You're right for the majority of people who will buy the Ninja, but there are exceptions - I plan to pay 3 lakhs upfront for the Ninja, but in no way am I rich or flush with cash. I just love bikes so much that it blots out any logic - right now I have a RE and will have the Ninja as my second bike. In absence of any good bikes before, I was planning to buy a Swift, but the Ninja has changed that. I know that I am going to get a lot of 'why-did-you-not-buy-a-car-instead' kind of comments from people when I get the Ninja, but I really don't care.

The 3 lakhs will come after scraping the bottom of my pans (bank balance) and I will have to sacrifice on a lot of spending for a few months after I buy it. And why not take a loan? I am not really a loan kind of guy - unless it is a house, education or medical emergencies, my way is to save money patiently and then buy the best in that segment after making the full payment. Then I take good care of those things, and they last forever. It has panned out pretty well so far...

My mind spoken...thats how I bought both my R15&was planning for the Ninja in a similar way too, some people here know why I dropped out.
But yeah, the thread starter is right in a way-it is an expensive bike to have considering the total outflow of money,

@ThreadStarter: As for the R15 being outdated, it has been 1.5 years since it launched&no bike has come to better it yet. I estimate another 1-2 years for something to match it, in terms of technology&overall package-simply topspeed is not a consideration, many other things go into it-handling, reliability, engine&gearbox refinement, build quality, braking, city riding, highway highspeed cruising, pillion comfort, yes, even mileage!

Correction: Insurance is approx Rs.5500 per year, not 12,000.
