Default Pulsar 180 UG2 Engine Noise

    Hello people.
I have a pulsar 180 UG2 2006 model, the one with analogue meter, had done around 32000 kms. I am facing a problem of engine noise.
The problem started 1 yr ago when a little amount of water went inside my bike tank (no idea about that at that moment of time) and the bike engine started turning off by itself. I took my bike to a mechanic who said there is something wrong with the breathing pipe or air filter, and after a few effort he attempted to start the bike and lug the engine with full throttle, he did this thing 4-5 times.... eventually that bloody a**hole mechanic came to rectify the real problem. But on the next morning when i started my bike i got a clicking, sound (like tak-tak) coming from the engine. I rode nearly a half a mile then I noticed the engine was again sounding smooth.
Again I went to that mechanic and he suggested me to change timing chain. Then I took my bike to the Authorized Bajaj Service Center they suggested me the same thing.

Then I got the timing chain changed.
After that I noticed the sound is still there and I'm facing another problem of engine overheating.
Now after 1 year I have become habitual of this thing but now I'm feeling that my bike engine is giving out this sound all the time, so really need to get out of this problem.

I'm a person who love to keep his bike at good shape with healthy engine. My friends says that my bike has a nice deep and heavy sound. I can't tolerate this problem anymore.

Please my xbhp frndzzzzz help me.

I would appreciate your posting of a solution.

are you sure that tak- tak noise is not due to tappets....??

engine overheating can be due to a lot of issues in engine, for now, check oil level, carb setting, and also check if timing chain is too tight.?

First of all Thanks Rahul, for your post.
How much the timing chain resister will cost me? Do you have any idea?

Thanks princesirohi for your kind help.
I'm not sure weather it is due to the tappets or not, but yes a mechanic told me that it is the problem of tappets, but also he recommended not to open the tappet or engine setting as after making any change with the tappet settings you'll never get what you were getting on factory setting.

    Is It true?

    p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } hi ravi,
I am no expert but have been using my pulsar 180 for over 9 years[ June 2002 model] and over 1.5 lakh kms successfully and with a successful milage of 45kmpl [highways] and [35-40kmpl [city] as of now.

Over the yrs have learnt many things abt the pulsar [classic] BY EXPERIENCE.
1] Since your pulsar has crossed 20k kms it is best to get the oil filter removed, because after 10-15k kms the parts of the engine start giving out engine shillings. If that happens then the oil filter [which is basically a metal net] gets clogged, which prevents the oil from moving freely in the engine.

By the way the rattling sound sound [tak tak tak] is mostly your tapet which your ...hole mechanic started by raising the rpm to an extreme on an idle bike most likely causing a permanent damage to the Block- Piston.
BIG CAUTION NEVER LET YOUR MECHANIC RAISE THE RPM TO EXTREMES ON AN IDLE BIKE THIS CREATES ENOUGH PRESSURE IN YOUR ENGINE TO PERMANENTLY DAMAGE IT.
Check whether your bike has started giving white emissions when the rpm is raised if yes then 99% the block piston is damaged.
If that is the case be sure to keep a check on your oil level, cause it will keep decreasing. If you ignore that, the rattlling sound will increase also the oil will start burning and one day all of a sudden your engine will freeze causing a permanent damage.
If you are using a 20-40 oil, its best u switch over to a 20-50 oil or a 15-50 oil. If your bike is giving white emissions then try not to use synthetic oil. It wont help as synthetic oil tends to loose its thickness and oilyness tendencies quite fast. Instead a normal 20-50 of a good brand will be much helpful. Pulsars get heated quite fast. Oils of 20-50 or 15-50 grade have a higher boiling point then 20-40 keeping the bike cooler at higher temperatures.

Also bikes that emit white smoke deposit a layer of oil on the spark plugs, which gives starting problem, jerks and also reduces fuel efficiency. Keep a spare spark plug with you as a precautionary measure.

IF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS ARE TRUE IN YOUR CASE, TRUST ME EITHER YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE MORE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AS TIME GOES ON OR FINALLY GET THE BLOCK AND PISTON REPLACED.

Do keep in touch and let me know if this applies in your case would be glad to help u out.

i have the same model,180 ug2,2005 jan.still loving it after somany years and so many kms,all 47000kms of it.
your ride is not at all having weired problems, the problems are the people who are dealing with your bike.find a good authorized service center first, the specialist is always better then others.even if one idiot opens up samething every day ,he is preferable then big talent but no prqatice guy.

    so why the problems--

    • 32000kms,its old,admit it,but the memory remains young.
    • overheating is most probably due to wrong settings of carb+tappet+mal handling by mechanics.

so what you will do--get the following replaced

    1. TIMING CHAIN
    2. TIMING CHAIN TENSION-ER
    3. TIMINNG CHAIN GUIDE
    4. CLUTCH LOAD BALANCER
    5. BALANCER BEARING
    6. TAPPEPET SHIM
    7. ALL GASTKETS OF SIDE COVER
    8. ONE WAY CLUTCH MAGNET KIT
    9. carb kit(jet set).

THEN give it a full through service.

pour in MOTUL 5100 15W50,ADD NGK IRRIDIUM PLUGS.

    this will clear out problems.....
    all the best.

    Hey Guys,
I need some help with doubts and questions here... I have a Pulsar Ug2 2006 model ... Have done around 40,000 kms. Honestly my steed has never let me down. Very proud of her. Have been religiously taking care of her . However as it gets older some problems are bound to come up i guess !! ...

I have installed a K&N air filter. Done around 25-30k kms with K&N installed.
Thats the only mod i have done to my bike. Nothing else , not even jetting..
Once the K&N was fit , I could definitely feel the increase in pick up. So was overjoyed with it. I am not a ripper so I do not touch the top speed quite often.
However with the K&N - does the bike feel a little rough ? - I mean the smoothness/softness !! While cruising around 80-85kmph the engine feels a little stressed, is this feel because of the noise/sound that K&N filter makes ?
Also wanted to know - How should be the movement of the front wheel with disc brakes ? I mean should it spin like a normal wheel without discs ? OR is a little jam/tightness ok ? I mean the front wheel of my bike does not spin that freely compared to what a normal wheel without disc brakes would do.

    Please help ...

    Regards,
    Nagesh Patankar
