            Piston rings

            Hi All,
            Need help on a small confusion. Recently i have noticed that the engine oil in my bike reduces like anything in may be about 2500-3000 kms. My mechanic says its due to the K&N filter. He checked the block/piston and said the block piston is fine. However, need to change the piston rings and later replace the air filter to stock. Is he correct in his diagnose ?
            My confusion is :- can i purchase just the piston rings without the block piston kit ? The mechanic says we can get only the piston rings but the authorised svc center guy said i will have to purchase the entire block piston kit. What should i do ? Last but not the least - should i also replace the carb ?
            Please help..

              What your mechanic said is true.Please use the company recommended stock filter and get peace.

              Check the pistons and cylinders for sign of wear or damage. If you find any damage,they need re-boring.Although new rings in old cylinder/piston will help, but not for very long,the compression still won't be as good as fitting new cylinder/piston.Choice is yours.
              No need to replace the carb,just get the internals of the carb cleaned.

                Hey Saahil ! Tune toh dara hi diya yaar. Just changing the piston rings won't help ? The mech said since the block-piston is good, just replacing the piston rings is good enough. Oh boy , day by day my worries are increasing. Shit ... see I forgot..

                Alright, coming back to my bike. Do i really have to change the entire block-piston assembly ?
