  • My First Solo Ride on R15-| Bangalore- Mangalore- Bangalore | 3 days - 845 Kms

Solo ride on my R15 has been a long time coming. I had done couple of group rides after I got my R15 which includes XBHP Tri State Event Ride, Kanva Dam Ride and Coorg Road Trip Recently but not a solo Ride on the R15. August 13,2010 was Nagarpanchami and I make sure I'm there in Mangalore on this auspicious day every year.Pooja would normally start at 11:00 AM in the morning and I had planed to start from Bangalore at 2:00 AM August 13,2010 so that I can cover 350Kms comfortably.

August 12,2010 - I had sprained my back and was concerned if I would be able to ride but decided to wait till the last moment to see if there was any improvement. In the back of my mind, I had no plans to cancel this trip come what may as I wanted to be there in Mangalore for Nagarapanchami. I just prayed to god to heal my back so I could ride. As the day progressed I could see improvement and was looking forward to ride to Mangalore.

August 12,2010 12:00 AM- I eave office after managing to finish my work and reach home by 12:30AM. As I get out of the parking lot, see it is drizzling. All I can do is hope the rain stops before I start the ride.

August 12,2010 2:00 AM- I'm fresh after taking a hot water bath and mum prepared warm milk for me. 1 Packet Britannia Goodday biscuits and I glass of milk goes in no time.Offer a quick prayer and take blessing from mum. Bro in the mean time saddling my bag in the basement.

August 12,2010 2:05 AM- All geared up for my Solo ride and start off. It is still drizzling and I anticipate that the rain will stop as I cover few miles.

R15 loaded with full tank of fuel and supply for the rider for the next 2 days. At 2:10 AM I start off to Mangalore.

August 12,2010 2:25 AM - 6.5 Km into the Trip, Rain gods apply brakes to my journey as it rains heavily . I pull off and park under a underpass on the outer ring road and waiting for the rain to reduce.

    R15 parked under the Underpass

August 12,2010 3:10 AM - I ring Andy and check if he is still in the office as I wait for the rain to stop. Conversation goes about work life, I talk about my day in the Securities trading and Andy talks about IA's, Sev alerts etc.Andy becomes the weather man during the conversation and gives me a weather report, if the rain starts in the mid night it ill not stop until early in the morning and suggest that I push off if the rain don't stop in 30 minutes. Ride in the rain is the prescription. We decide to meet in the next 30 minutes as I will be passing in front of Manyata Tech park.

August 12,2010 3:35 AM - I start off as I cannot delay myself anymore and stop in front of Manyata Tech park to meet Andy. Andy is busy at work and I push off. I'm riding in the rain. Tinted visor on my Helmet forces me to keep the helmet open for better visibility. Rain falling at a angle and I have to close my eyes very often to avoid strikes from rain drops. I continue riding in the rain and rain stop near Nelamangala, Take a quick break for tea and ensure my Kodak zi8 which was carrying to take videos is not wet.

Roads are under construction from Nelamangala to Kunigal, It is pitch dark, No divider or markings, Buses which leave Mangalore are arriving and using all the lanes with very little room for motorcycles. One little mistake could land me deep shit as the roads are dug all over. My strategy to ride in these conditions was to ride behind a truck/bus/car and keep good distance so that I can ride at the same pace and brake accordingly.

Strategy works and I’m covering good distance. I see the sign board for Chandrayapatna as 38km which is my next stop for breakfast kept riding and reached Chandryapatna at 7:00 in the morning and covered close to 200kms

    R15 parked at Kamat, Chandrayapatna.

    Some images from Kodak ZI8

2 Plate Poori and 1 Strong tea for the rider. I'm ready to leave and start towards Mangalore. My next stop is Sakleshpur.

Stopped in the Ghats to take some photographs.

We head to a place called Kolthamajal where we offer Milk to our Nagadevatha Unfortunately this year family members decided to start Pooja at 9:00 and by the time I’m there, everything is over. I stand in front of him and apologize for being late and promise to be there in advance next year. Take Pooja prasada and we push off. There is a clear disappointment in me that I missed the Pooja as our Nagadevatha ask for just 1 day and that too few hours from all the family members to visit him and offer him milk for being around us all around the year and answering our prayers.

Thank you Yamaha for such wonderfull machine..Everything forgiven. Yes YAMAHA.I had booked a ZMR and cancelled the day it arrived after waiting for 3 months and went for R15. I had traveling to Calicut and enroute I rode Mahesh's R15 which changed my decision of ZMR to R15. Thank you Mahesh

Day 2 in Mangalore coming soon and lot of Photographs. Though I had done quite a few road trips. This is my first travel log that I'm penning down and look forward to share many more with all you friends.

Nice riding there. R15 is an infinitely fun to bike to do cornering. Am sure your face would have had that smug grin when putting down your legs.

The LS2 with its metallic tinted visor can be awefully irritating when riding in the dark. I was promised that the clear visors would arrive in a week or so, but it didn't.

The red-on-white R15 is one of the most beautiful bikes in India I have ever seen. Sadly, I wish I bought one of these instead of an FZ.

Good ride. Shiradi looks tempting but I wouldn't lean over too much on that concrete surface.

Thank you Zaphod ordering is fun but I did not try in h ghats but there were some great roads for riding just before the ghats. Hassan, Sakleshpur and just before the ghats start.
LS2 helmets are petty good. I paid 3k for it as I could not find SHOEI here but intend to get one soon.During the day the silver visor is perfect and early morning and evening, a plain visor is absolutely necessary. Here in Banglore we can get the LS2 visors. If you need them I can buy on and ship that across to you.

I finally head back to Bangalore. 11:00AM - I start riding back and stop at this temple. All the truckers, Bus drivers stop here for a moment and then pass. It is very powerful temple. It is called Kalutti. The god here asked a Muslim to build here a small temple as she did not have a place to stay. He was a poor guy and told I cannot build a very bg place for you but a small one. Over the period of time the place has grown big and people of all caste and creed come here to pray and offer what ever little they can give.

I move after offering my prayers. I stop at a place called Kaladka which is famous for a tea called Kaladka Tea. Pic below. The speciality of this tea is milk settles down in the bottom o the glass and tea floats over the top of the milk. They then apply a later of cream over the tea and serve.

I finish my tea and take some snaps of the fish market which was there across the road

I then head to Shiradi Ghats.

As I head towards the ghats and see the western ghats in sight. I remember of one thing…………………………….

                  R15'S Appointment with the LORD

After the appointment we move towards the ghats and it is raining. My plans of Photoshoot is cancelled and I continue to ride in the rain.

                  Western Ghats in Sight

Waterfall. The entire portion was washed away during heavy rains

Ghats over and I stop to click some more photos. This place is few kilometers before Sakleshpur if you are arriving from Mangalore.

                  Women at WORK

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

From Sakleshpur I ride towards Hassan and stop few kilometers after Hassan near a railway station to take some more pictures. It is next to some Engineering college.

My good friend Chethan Chandu says Road Never ends...keep Riding.I dedicate the picture below to him.

I reach Bangalore at 8:30PM and head to bed after a hot water bath.
Will ride to another destination and post another travel log. The pic and video are from Kodak ZI8, the only cam that I took for the road trip. The videos on here are my first ones and look forward to come out with professional looking videos. Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope all of you enjoyed them. C and C please welcome.

                  Cheers

Awesome stuff man! Lovely pics too.
You've uploaded sooooo many pics on pg 1, that even after 5 attempts, I can't see any after the shots of the church.

That tea's texture looks more like cold coffee to me.

Thank you Bala for the kind words. I'm glad that you liked the photos and log. Here is the road update.

                            Bangalore to Hassan.
                            Option 1. Nelamangala-Kunigal-Chandrayapatna-Hassan-Sakleshpur-Mani-BC Road-Mangalore.

Here Nelamangala to Kunigalk are under construction but wide roads with lot of intersection.

Kunigal to Chandrayapatna-Hassan-Sakleshpur good roads and you may find small patches of bad roads but are still Okay to ride or drive.

Ghats some part of the roads are bad and huge pot holes and are being dug up by KRDCL for putting concrete. You can still drive and I would rate the stretch of 30kms of ghats as average roads.

After Ghat, roads ar good again and some part are bad but you will hardly notice. BC Road is because of never ending flyover construction but after you cross BC road, Roads are good again, 4 lane construction happening so a quick ride. 40 min is what I would say from BC road to Mangalore-28kms.

                            Option 2.
Same route but reach Kunigal via Magadi. Awesome roads with lots of Twisties.

                            Option 3
BLR to Hunsur - good 4 lane roads
Hunsur to madikeri- Nice roads and ghats have newly laid roads till Madikeri KSRTC bus stand. Only last 2km are bad. After Madikeri, I have not travelled, I will check with friend of mine who visited recently and send a PM.

                            Cheers
