  • Pulsar 200 NS or Apache RTR 180 ABS or P220

    Dear Friends and Experts,

First a small intro of me. I am a Software Er in Hyderabad and own a Thunderbird 2009 model. I am planning to buy a good sporty bike for basically city rides and long rides in 2-3 months once. Also my height is 5' 8"

I love the feel of TBTS but always miss the torque in my bull. From the last 1 month I am going through all the materials/opinions and finally my decision has boiled down to following 3 options:

    Apache RTR 180 ABS
    Pulsar 200 NS
    Pulsar 220

Based on my search on the net I have figured out the following facts/notions about these:

    Apache RTR 180 ABS

    Pros:
Very nimble and easy to maneuver bike because of less weight
-Top power to weight ratio in its class
    -Very good acceleration
-Better breaking because of petal breaks and ABS
    -Great sporty look

    Cons:
-Vibrations at higher speeds(dont know from what speed)
    -Costly spares
-Uncomfortable sitting posture for rides above 100 kms
-Uncomfortable for ladies if they sit sideways because of sporty seat

    Pulsar 200 NS:

    Pros:
-Killer looks(the read mudflap and the front number plate destroy it though)
-New engine with 3 spark plugs(I understand 3 plugs may help in better fuel burning and mileage)
-Shortest 0-100 time in its class(acceleration)

    Cons:
-Vibrations(I am not sure if they are there, but driven other pulsars and always feel it above 80s)
-New technology which is not tested for long(feel kinda fearsome)
-Not that good ergonomics for the highway rides due to Naked design
-Uncomfortable for ladies if they sit sideways because of sporty seat

    Pulsar 220:

    Pros:
    -Awsome high speed
    -Stability in high speeds
-Good looks and WOW factor of slightly bigger bike

    Cons:
    -Handling on the corners
    -Large turning radius
-Uncomfortable for ladies if they sit sideways

My personal inclination is towards Apache because I drove one of my friend's what I was in college and it felt very light weight(but as an owner of a bull, I know the value of weight of weight in sudden breakings and panic situations)

Please help in choosing one and kindly be very frank and honest with your opinions.

Also I would like to request to the senior guys in the pack to share your experiences on them as well.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

If your priority is ABS then go for RTR180, for all the other factors, the 200ns will give you maximum bang for your buck. The 200ns has best acceleration among the 3, handling is spot on too, the seating is more upright which will be very comfortable, Most importantly the bike comes with 4 valves and liquid cooling which is a must for enthusiastic riding.

As you are the owner of a TBTS so you won't enjoy the ride comfort in any other bike then TBTS. It's like coming form a delux to non AC room.
Think again. TBTS is not that bad in city ride. It has torque and comfort for daily daily ride.
NS200 is low on city rides, it's been designed same as other sports bike funda, i.e low on lower rpms and blast on higher rpms.

P220 is best for city as well as tour, but the question is for few more Ks if you get better tech and bike then why not NS200 ??

And RTR 180 is good for city as well as tour with the deadly combination of ABS. I will recommend this bike if you are not so prone to high speed of 120kmph+

RTR 180 is best bike in a budget of <1L. I personally have seen teh control of ABS on turns/ghats/wet roads etc. It's a nice bike in city and tour. NS200 is for people who don't care for average as well as ABS.
Handling of RTR is also good.

                  Dear Fellow Riders,

I would like to thank you for giving your time and helping me out, your suggestions really helped me.

I have gone through the ownership threads of other bikes also and came to decision that Pulsar 200NS is the best VFM this time, so will book it as soon I am back to India.

Again many thanks to all and wish you safe ridings always

So true. Each bike is intended for a purpose, which is intended for a particular target group of customers
