Default "Men on Saddle", Raajmachi Ride - " Mind wonders? then Ride after it”.

    1st October 2012 6:28 PM

Me: Santosh bhai kal chutti hai “let’s go somewhere tomorrow”
Santosh: Arre haa kal chutti hain. Awesome idea. (He got on a call with fellow “Saddlers” & I went from there.)

Same day at 9.42 PM my phone rang & I see that the FB profile pic of Santosh on my phone’s display and got hint it must be something crazy & it must be a Ride plan for tomorrow. I picked up phone & directly asked him “So where are we heading tomorrow”
Santosh – Haa bhai good news tomorrow we are Riding.
Me: Give me the details for tomorrow’s ride?
Santosh: I’ll tell meeting place & destination soon.
    ME: Ok, message me anytime.

Same day 10.51pm Phone rings again:
Santosh: where you’ll meet me tomorrow?
    Me: Eternity at 5 am?
Santosh: “Done” (that’s it & kept phone without bothering to tell me the detail of the ride.)

    Same Day 10:57pm
Went out washed my bike completely & covered it with my Legend…ARY Bike Cover.

    2nd October 2012 4am

Woke up & got ready for the Ride with no information whatsoever. Reached Eternity at 5.15am & called Santosh he wasn't there till 5.45 AM. When I saw his bike come to a halt near me, I asked him bhai where are we heading?

He gave me a mischievous smile, perhaps he understood what was going on in my mind and that I was anxious to know the details. Lonavla, may be. May be? I inquired What do you mean by may be? Then Santosh spilled the beans and said “The point Zero is Kohinoor City where the rest of the “Saddlers” are waiting, let’s hurry, else be left out.” I was like what’s this new thing, just the two of us? He said, “arre nahin, there are 2 more “Saddlers” joining us. I smiled & didn't bother to ask anything & agreed to go there. One question which kept coming on my mind again and again was – “Why does he keep referring to everyone as Saddlers?” Suddenly Santosh said first Let’s head to Thane East. “Now wtf is happening?” I replied. We will go there to collect some coal from a friend. Still it was dark and cold as it had rained the whole night. “Why do we need coal?” Anyways, with so many questions running in my head, I just didn't bother any further and played in. Rode to the friend’s house, woke him up early in the morning around 6.15am, collected 1kg charcoal & headed towards Kohinoor City. Reached there around 6.50am & saw two people already waiting for us with lots of Bags. Those were Ashish Duos. My Face lit up. I knew now is the time to pop out all the questions. These guys should be able to tell me. “Where we are going?, I blurted. They replied in Chorus, “Rajmachi, don’t you know it yet?” Clicked a few pictures of the bikes and rode to the nearest Gas Station to get the Air Pressure and the Tanks Full.

Obviously "It's not what you ride that matters, it's that you ride" but still let's see the Riders name with there Love.

    Ashish Bharadwaj – Royal Enfield
Santosh Gawas – Hero Honda Ambition 135
Ashish Bisht – Pulsar 200 “Limited Edition”
Shahbaz Patel aka Shaby (ME) – TVS Apache 180 “ABS” (White Innocent Beast)

    “4 Riders - Destination Unknown… Err Rajmachi

    Some information about Location, Rajmachi.

Rajmachi consists of two beautiful peaks namely 'Shrivardhan' and 'Manaranjan'. Rajmachi is very famous fort near twin hill stations in Maharashtra - Lonavala and Khanadala. Rajmachi fort is nearby 18/20 Kms from Lonavala but a nice way to reach the fort is from Tungarli Lake. This trek is very good for the beginners.”

“Wherever your Mind wonders, Ride after it”.

Rajmachi was famous destination for trekkers/ beginners but we planned to Ride it down, Wherever your Mind wonders, Ride after it” That’s what were in our mind. All were set up Gear down & vroom-broom, Bisht was leading us. And Ashish decided to be the tail. Despite the rains on our previous night, it was getting warm and there were no signs of Rains, whatsoever. Extremely excited riding on the empty New Mumbai roads, Bisht & Santosh went directly onto the “Mumbai-Pune Express Highway” & I followed them. Ashish, the “Tail Saddler” stopped there knowing, two wheeler’s not allowed there. Perhaps he should’ve led us. Anyways, there was no way we could turn back as we had reached the point of no return. I see COPS Patrol vehicle and knew we were exactly who they were waiting for. I firmly believe in one thing. If something can go wrong, it will go wrong. Yes, the hackneyed stupid Murphy Laws. We had to pay for our ignorance and shell out INR 1000 for the 3 of us. Cops suggested we go further and take the exit at Panvel so we called Ashish to meet us there. We decided to meet Ashish at Panvel - Khopoli Junction. I was the first one to reach there & saw Ashish coming. He had meanwhile stopped over at Shri Dutt Snack corner for some yummy Bhajji Pav and Tea, while we were using our skills to negotiate with the COPS. We saw each other at the same time and waved at each other & stopped there waiting for fellow Saddlers who were around a 100 meter behind me, when I last checked a min ago. We both waited for a moment and couldn’t see them. Ashish called them and asked, “where are you guys?”. “Just crossed Toll Naka, wait! we are coming” was the reply. We waited 15 minutes more but there was no sign of them, I was wondering where they went? We decided to proceed further & meet them at “Our Usual Place – ADDA” ahead in Khandala. NH-4, as always teases a rider to go a bit faster. Reached Khandala Ghat & yet there were no signs of the rain. I thought to myself, “It is going to be a clean dry ride.” Oh boy, was I mistaken? I’ve personally never been to Rajmachi so wasn’t sure what to expect, especially if it had rained the previous night. The place is referred to as a training ground for Leh Riders. It helps if you have ridden a couple of times to Rajmachi during rains. Once we reached the Khandala Ghats, we decided to stop & do some photography with my not so called legendary Sony 12MP camera. As soon as I sprung out my puny camera, Ashish took out his massive DSLR Nikon D300. So my moment of joy was momentary. After a few clicks, we went further ahead and one long vehicle (like 18wheeler) parked at the road side. We stopped there to click some pics & saw a man approaching Ashish. He said something to him. I asked him, “ what happened?” He told me, “This truck contains 12 Porsche Cars & driver had been robbed last night. On enquiring further, we were informed that robber has taken 4 keys of cars along with him & the poor drivers money & bag of clothes. We tried to contact his boss through available cell number. After trying 2-3 numbers we left him there as none of them was.

On the way towards Lonavla somewhere at Khandala Ahish posing on his RE.

Pics of long truck whose driver was robbed

The trucker mentioned that his transport company knew about it and so did the cops. We rode further, reached Khandala-Lonavla & saw Santosh & Bisht waving at us from some “chota tapri” or a “Greasy Spoon”. We parked our bikes next to theirs and asked them about the fiasco and the confusion over the meeting poinit, shared out riding experience & driver’s dukh bhari daastan (Sob Story). We ordered some Breakfast too. After breakfast, when we were getting ready for Rajmachi, Bisht saw a big screw in his rear tires. Thank God for small mercies for it was a tubeless tyre and we were still in place where we could get the puncture sorted. My shoe, meanwhile started opening its mouth. The entire Sole started to come off. We decided to search a nearby Puncture waala & shoes waala (Cobbler). We were lucky and found both nearby and were ready to hit the rode in no time.

Here is the pic of Tyre puncture unfortunately couldn't capture pic of shoe though.

As soon as we took the turn for Rajmachi, I saw a very steep slope with large number of stones & loose gravel. I was beginning to realize what was in the offing. The other guys expressed no emotion, whatsoever, perhaps they had been here before or had done worst off roads. Anyways, I was all geared up for this adventure with all my safety equipment & went slowly slowly behind the others. The road started to get worse and the Saddlers faces began to light up. After riding around 2-3 kilometer saw one “Adventure Resort of sorts” Della. Anyways, I wouldn’t call it an adventure as all the rides and stuff there is 100% safe and planned. Anyways, till here the road were manageable as compared to what we were about to witness for the next 10-15 km or so. Ashish duos did some jugaad for Video by using duct tape and cellphones (mobile phone). Perhaps, they knew that the fun was about to begin.

"Sure, give us an adventure and we'll ride it”.

Shit Happens. It always happens. And it happened during this Ride as well. We had the Tire puncture, my Break lever jammed, there were moments when invincible rocks just wouldn’t let us pass over them, there was this clay which wouldn’t let you stand straight and walk, forget riding over it. There were several heart in mouth moment. Certain memories will be left on my bike as scratches due to rocks & slippery mud. But certainly the experience during this ride was DIFFERENT & unique from most of the ride I’ve ever been on. It wasn’t all about Riding. It involved riding, rather I would say riding was an integral part of it but to say that it was all this adventure was all about, then that would be a lie. It was like a crash course on choosing the right camping site, selecting the location to pitch the tent, pitching the tent, starting a fire (despite the rains). Yes, it started to rain later while we camped and had started our cooking on the camp fire. Off-roading was fun. In the end it was very unorthodox yet a very eventful & successful trip for us “MEN ON SADDLE”. Expecting you guys to join us for more adventure & fun loving Rides in future.

    Bisht Posing & Ashish jugaading.

Let the pics do the talking now. There were around 600 pictures. We are shortlisted them and I shall post them soon and in batches.

Bikes enjoying the nature at top.

And yes, I am sure you have this question too. Saddlers? Who are they? Well, the Men on Saddle are called “Saddlers” More about their group on WWW.facebook.com/menonsaddle They are new in formally starting the group so expect the website to take some time and their fb page to be slow. But I see what they have to offer and how it is different.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Just flick the switch and twist my wrist
The beast comes alive, bringing me back to life
A tap to shift and flick of the wrist
The beast takes flight bringing me back to life
Kill the silence, tear apart the dark
The beast rips the road, hell yeah, i feel alive.
