Default little thing that made my bike good

hi guys,
I have been using tvs victor for around 4 years,an year ago i faced some sort of probs in engine engine shuts off at running, and when this happens i have kick for atleast 5 mins phooooooo .............. that wasn't so cool then i took my bike to the service center after a month from the service the same thing also happens.................
i searched tvs victor's community in orkut they said that, the problem was due to the deposit of dust in lid of the tank..... so i cleaned it up.... but i wasn't happy enough to ride my bike. So i moved to another workshop of my friend he decarbonized my engine washed it changed the valves clutche plate etc ..... that made my bike better to some extend then i search for simple modification then i happened to hear about the iridium spark plugs from ngk...... when i had them my bike could run below 25km in th 4th gears without even touching the clutch lever ............ it also gave me power and mileage
The best thing is that, it even increased my bikes acceleration . my bikes model was cr6hix

now that's cool na.......................

Feels Good to hear that you regained your bike's true form. Can you tell us more about the improvements after the fitment of iridium plug!!

Default With Pleasure

Hi,
Using iridium plug, with all these pleasures you need to be careful about something that, when you are servicing your bike you need to tell your service center that not to touch bike's plug...... When you didn't they will change your plug...... Don't clean your plugs because when you observe your iridium plug with normal plug you can see that it is pointed inorder to keep that you need to keep your plug untouched.....

I recommend ngk iridium spark plugs for indian bikes to get performance than changing your bikes air filter.. because there are no specifc k&n air filters for indian bikes but ngk do have and it also didn't change your bikes sound and never decreases your bikes mileage rather than that it increases the mileage.. Ya I know this sounds crazy that it can't increase the power that k&n airfilters do but also note that when airfilter didn't fix the right way it should be it could increase the engine temperature and the bike gets stopped.. there is no such problems in using ngk iridium plugs

So finally decided to purchase Victor GLX 125 with Disk Break
The difference between unicorn and Victor was not much 1000 Rs.

Purchase:

10th April 2005 it was Gudi Padwa “Marathi New Year”.
On road Price: 54,500, Vijan Motors,Kalyan (Now Closed )
Color: Black with red stripes.
The only thing on which I was annoyed at was when I read the test ride report in AnutoCar India, the bike was with Tacho meter and with Engine kill switch. And when I brought the Bike both the features were absent and even on their broacher they have printed the same. Even had a small fight with the dealer for the same but of no use ,then spoke to regional sales manager but apologies for that but he could not do anything as its companies decision.
Now about the Bike:
Distance travelled till date on Speedo 44,000 Kms,but am sure it has done more than 50,000 Km as speed was not working for almost 10 Months.

Run In:

Done perfect run in for almost 1500 Kms.Milage used to give 50-55 Km/lit, and engine was butter smooth. Not much difference after first service.

Acceleration and Speed:

Don’t expect any miracles here, but fast till 80 Km/hr and after that you have to wait till ages till 95km/hr and fortunately if you got any slope you can cross magical 3 Digit mark, ,max I did is 106km/hr on slope. But ever good to cruse @ 70km/hr all the day without any vibration, it’s a perfect commuter bike.its hard to tell at 60 km/hr the engine is on or off its really butter smooth.

Engine:

It’s a 124.8 cc with compression ratio of 9.2:1 breathed by Micuni VM 19 SH carb. Pumping out healthy 7.16 kw of power at 7500 RPM and torque of 9.5 Nm @ 5500 RPM good low end torque. It a Vti engine and also has that Vti light also, it means whenever you leave the throttle the Vti stops supply of fuel to engine, but the technology is complex for the service centers. Engine has every good low end torque one can engage 4th gear as low as 20 Km/hr if driven cautiously without stalling.
Always stars at first kick, be it rains winter. And it rains heavily in Mumbai and my bike never got a shelter, she always stands outside in rains, but never complained. Sometimes I get bored of her consistency.
I will give 9 out of 10 for engine,1 deducted for the top speed, otherwise a flawless one.

Electricals:

TVS vehicles are always known for their good electrical. And this bike is no exception. She has a powerful Magneto of 90 W, which helps to provide brighter light at lower RPMs.
Never faced any problem in this department. Replaced headlight bulb after 4 years and battery after 3 years. Front break light switch was not working from day one so just removed that cable.
But city light is missing on such a premium bike.

Headlight beam is excellent.

Looks/Comfort/body:

One of the better looking if not the best looking, it has a big bike feel to it. And very comfortable seat and one of the longest seat very good for pillion. Bike has a very comfortable ridding position, with quality grips and switchgear. Never felt tired after ridding this bike.
Those who stays in kalyan and Dombivli know how bad the roads are here am sure we are having worst roads country. And I used to commute on this bike to my office which is 17 Kms from my home and that road was in such a horrible condition that even our office bus used to get bottomed some of the path holes. The stability, comfort quality of suspension is top class. Never even changed the fork oil also. Almost drove bike for 18 months on such a bad roads and in rains the road used to be muddy (some times gone through 6 inches of mud layer).
This is am telling you guys because, I know what has happened to my friends bikes (Unicorn, pulsers Zma’s) after just one year of ridding on our roads.
The bike is still not rattling except for the broken heat shield.
Special mention:
Am one of the victim of 26/7 and my bike was in 12 Ft water for more than 24 Hrs. And after 26th July I took my bike to local mechanic to remove water and cleaning, and to our surprise not a single drop of water went inside the fuel tank. Then he just cleaned the spark plug and changed the oil 2 times and once after 10 days. But my bikes headlight reflector lost some of its shine.

Ride, Handling and Breaking:

Never took her long for more than 200 Kms.But was comfortable but bit boring as it’s a pure commuter bike no thrill bike. It just rides as per your instructions; High speed stability is very good but hardly goes beyond 90 Km/hr.
Ride is plush and comfortable and very relaxed.Due to this I always criticizes my friend’s bikes for the ride and the manner in which she handles bad roads.
Breaking, stability under breaking is very good, even feel is also very goods, breaks are better than Unicorn and Karizma, when tested with my friends bikes. But frond disk pad fade is faster, I have replaced it 3 times already but used more front break and my disk has lines so eating pads much.
But pads are much cheaper 360 Rs only. And changed rear break liner once: 150 Rs.
Changed to MRF Zapper F at frond and Zapper Y at rear, very good tyres.
I have changed my bikes tube minimum 5-6 times earlier on OME tyres Dunlop one.Evey time my rear tyre used to get punctured I need to change the tube with it.

Servicing, Problems and Maintenance:

Warranty was for 2 years or 30,000 Km which ever was earlier with 11 service coupons.
Sometimes I use Bardhal petrol additive.Whih helps to keep bike in good shape.
Oil change after 3-4 K with TVS True4 Oil.
1. Not a single niggle except the Speedo meter problem, the speed gear lasts only 15000 Kms approx and it’s of 230 Rs.
2. Accelerator cable broken at 23,000 Km. 110 Rs.
3> Even my handle lock has given up, may be due to heavy rains need to replace whole lockset so avoiding it.
Am in love with this bike now am waiting for 100 CC scooter from TVS otherwise will go for Streak.(For City use)
And will wait till Auto Expo for any new launches and if not will go for RTR 180.
Guys please comment on the review, all comments are welcome.
guys stop worrying use castrol power1, its quite natural for replacing your accelerator cable after 23,000kms it say's quality man using splender you have to change your bike's accelerator cable after 15,000kms... and splender changes it's chain and sprocket in 16,000 but i only need to change mine in 30,000kms and the parts are are much cheaper compared to another bikes......So don't change your bike just do as yor bike as i wrote earlier....

Thumbs up TVS Victor GL 2004

I have been driving Victor GL 2004 since last year(2010). It read 30000 when i got to ride it. It was the time I put it into real test. its been one year and the current reading is 50000. the bike seems very much reliable. I went on long trips around bangalore, farthest being Yercaud(550km trip). I ride it to my college everyday around 50 km.

The bike is very good in city as well as highway. Pick up is good, but when compared with bajaj caliber, its low. I have touched upto 100kmph on highway, reaches 90kmph easily.

Well after so much of rough and tough riding, it needed some assistance. So i installed
Ceat Grip Tyre - size 3.00-17 for ....Rs.1850.......... (for wet roads)
Camshaft -................................. Rs.700........... (bike was making kata-kata-kata sound)
small chain for camshaft-.............. Rs.300
Clutch Center apparatus-.............. Rs.380........... (worn out)
Clutch plates-............................. Rs.360........... (apache's)(bike was giving jerks)
Oil and Fork rubbers for shockers-....Rs.250............(oil leak)
Gasket set-................................ Rs. 120...........(oil was leaking on cylinder)
Engine oil - Shell advance.............. Rs. 337

Now it feels so new again. Wanna go for a trip after my exams...

Its a reliable bike. I dont know km/l mileage but it used to go 125km for Rs.200 petrol (@ Rs.74/L). Mechanic said that it will give better mileage once the repairs are done. Have to check it now.

brother, you can go for Castrol power1 or Shell advance AX7. it will be around 315 bucks but will last longer and is thicker with viscosity level of 10w-40.

Key features of Shell Advance AX7:

Excellent shear stability – to dampen vibration and reduce noise.
Proven friction control – for smoother clutch engagement and gear changes.
Proven protection against valve train wear.
Removal of sludge and engine deposits.
Special formula keeps oil in-grade for longer.
Shell Advance's R.C.E* Technology helps your bike perform to its peak potential and respond to your slightest touch.

I use it for my victor (lasts for 3500km easily)

Dude i just changed the Head lamp. Not for style statement but i found that headlamp of victor is very sensitive..breaks off even if your bike falls at parking. The setting of beam in correct position is very difficult, the clamps rise and light goes into sky..
Thus i repleced it with a Shogun standard Box headlight. It looks quiet good and the quality of light is also very good.

As per my suggestion, for bikes like victor, go for engine power enhancement rather than body or colour modification.

I modified my TVS GLX 125 cc regarding headlights

I put a scooter regulator of 80 watts in parallel only for headlight
Now my bike has a 60/55 watts Philips Extreme power bulb and also I can put an additional 20-25 watts bulb.
I am looking for an LED auxiliary headlight .
I am using this setup for more than 3 years without any problem
I changed to the round headlight of Discover 125(The older version of Bajaj discover which had 60/55 watts bulb)
The round headlight of discover is larger hence more good focus
Unbelievably,I get a clear visibility of around 500 meters while driving my bike at night on highways

Another change I done is increase in Carburettor main jet size
Main jet of GLX is 87.5 number
I got a main jet of Bullet 350 which is 90 number
I got amazing results
smoothness in ride around 70 kph and surprisingly no change in mileage and slight increase in top speed.Earlier my bike used to struggle around 90 now it reaches till 100 kph and on gentle slopes with straight roads,I touched even 115 kph
The only drawback is that the engine firing sound is little bit ruff due to that large main jet(Firing is little bit like Yamaha YBX 125)

Currently I am looking for durable clutch plates.
I have heard about fiber clutch plates but dont know where to get from Pune/Mumbai
I purchased Yamaha RX 135 clutch plates(6 clutch plates) but they dont fit in my GLX clutch.
Also the clutch drum houses only 4 clutch plates.I want to know whether can I house 5 clutch plates in the clutch drum?
Because so far I know,if you have 5 clutch plates for 4 geared bike, the gear transmission is smooth and the power delivery to the wheel from engine is good.

Regards
Pankaj
