Default Lower import duties on imported SBKs in 2005

I wish this financial budget, Our dear PM Singhji could work out with FM to remove or cut off the import duties on SBKs, I thinks XBHPians should make a rally or some public event in ND so that government and media also realize that we need SBK...not asking for subsidy .. atleast remove or cut down the import duties...

How shamefull it is... we have the largest bike manufacturers who are feared fo loosing there market due to international player... One strange phenomena.

I am ready to pay for machine but damm import duty ... thats pain in ass...its like paying for nothing...for import duty i get nothing....instead of paying import duty i would happily move for a outdoor trip for 7 days four times a year and would drive the bike all 7 days ....aleast this way i will have international trip, a good road to drive and a good bike.. not to mention good chicks tooo... all dreams come true in the amount that would other wise just fall in some bad pockets...

government needs some money dude.
if they remove that duty every tom dick and harry will ride a sbk on the road.
polluting and created hassles in the traffic.

and if u import the bike it necesarily means u can afford to maintain it and pay the duty also.

boss, even after removing the duty, it is not at all possible for the tom, dick and harry's to own a Sbk. The bikes would still be costing 2.5 lakh plus and in our land where 96cc and 30k bikes are the highest selling two-wheelers, infact are world's largest selling in numbers, I don't ever suppose that owning a sbk is child's game.. Lowering or even getting away with the duties will infact make way for capable enough Indian customers to taste what the world has since long time back... I really sometimes feel how backwards are we that we are riding machines having power less than that of lawn mowers used abroad and just dream with our tongues ready to get out from our mouth on seeing the Sbk's.. If we can have the world's best cars then why is the partiality with Bikes.!!?!!. Pls. no offences meant to anyone, what I think I have written...

@sk8er : govt does need money i agree but how many sbks r in india? the money govt earns from sbk duties is ntn in front of the total money govt requires/earns from taxes/duties on other things
the excuse govt has for such high duties : dey want to save the domestic market! what crap.. how can dey compare 600cc/900cc/1000cc bikes with 100cc lunas.. dey shd remove the duties on motorcycles above 250cc or atleast drop it down to 40-50%
