Oh no - I am not going to buy this. I was just suggesting this as an alternative to building a fence around the bikes!
If I wanted to get something like this, I would get it made locally for a fraction of the imported cost

A comparison with comet would also be a good idea, by someone who has the info... Guys, RW figures for Ninja 250 are 26.9 bhp @ 11 krpm and 18.42 NM @ 8.5 krpm. One funny thing - Hyosung has more power/torque upto 10.5k, compared to Ninja. I know sportsbikes are more peakier, but that's almost the entire powerband?! ![]() Source: Bike India, (but UK Article). |

Also v-twins (which the Hyosungs are) produce more torque than the inline twin in the Ninja and a particular RPM (at least up till and including the mid-ranges)and thats the reason why it might show a higher curve. The Honda VTR 250 also shows a hiher torque/BHP curve than the ninja till mid-range RMPs. Most sites about GT250 (R), confirms that the max RW bhp for them are in the 25-26 BHP range, so at the top end I'd guess the Ninja will have more power. The Ninja is reputed to have a 0-100 kmph time of 8 odd secs, I own an Aquila and have ridden the Comets, and they do not feel nearly that fast !! Maybe because of the extra weight !! Maybe if Hysoung water cools that engine, they can be tuned more aggresively ! Lastly there are lots of comparisons between ninja and gt250R on the net, including one on youtube done my MCN. They all almost unaniously gives the vote to the GREEN one !!

In order to cut short my waiting time for the 250R, I called up the Chennai pro biking showroom today. The phone was answered by a busy sounding girl who said that they could sell the bike to me under a temp registration and then I could register later at the Bangalore RTO. (This was also suggested by someone in this thread).
But she said that the 'minimum' waiting period was 3 months! That is too much time for a niche product like that. I can only see two reasons why: 1) CKD orders are usually pain in the behind for global factories working hard to deliver their regular export commitments. Since this is a 2010 model, the factory must be busy with first being able to ship out the global CBU orders. And then when the production pressure eases out a bit, they would start looking at the CKD orders from Bajaj. If this logic stands true, then I rather wait for the Bangalore launch to happen in a couple of months, and then get my delivery in only a month or less after booking. ![]() 2) Bajaj is trying to play safe by making the Ninja 250R only against confirmed bookings. If this is the case, then they are making a big mistake. A wait period of 3-4 months for a bike which comes off a mass production assembly line is just too long. I wonder if people will have that kind of patience. I could understand if this was a model which was selling like 50k units a year, but Bajaj plans to sell only a 1000 bikes in a year. Though, in my personal opinion, it is point 1), with Kawasaki unable to deliver CKD orders in the few initial months of the 2010 250R production. Just my two cents... |

I do feel too that Bajaj is playing safe, even in the city where the manufacturing/assembling happens. First few bikes in Pune got booked quite quickly and the people approaching the showroom for booking now are probably being given the time limit of 4 months or so. 4 months is an overwhelmingly long wait by any standards. Regarding mine, as I have repeated before, I am yet not sure whether I will get it in the very first lot (as mine is a black so they hope a slightly quicker delivery) or it will take 1.5 months or so. |

Imports are not that easy. They have to ship a certain quantity to cover the costs. They cannot send them in 10's or 20's.
and especially if the CKD's are coming from a plant that has to supply for the international market and be ready for the launch in 2 months, supplying good numbers to a new market with so many questions in mind about how many would really sell and how well the service can be delivered... and also uncertainties about the supply of spare parts... I am sure Kawasaki would want to watch their every step very carefully. The Baby Ninja has the potential to do the same to Kawasaki & to Indian Premium Biking scene what the City did to Honda and to Indian Premium Car scene.

having ridden both, the GT250 and the Ninja 250 extensively, all i can say is that the Comet is still a compromise if you wish to own a thoroughbred international level true-blue sports motorcycle. (Please do not categories naked and sports here, as our Indian industry has a long way to go before we can do such categorization). The Comet does not move beyond 145km/h and the the 120 to 145 dash also takes considerable time compared to the Ninja.
The Ninja is an out and out sports motorcycle and though it is a beginners bike abroad, in our infant stages of motorcycling in India, its still the performance king. It is expensive on paper and the 2,80 plus tag DOES NOT get justified with its specs and overall performance. But then again, this bike is the most suitable sports motorcycle for India because of its versatile nature to adapt to the rider's needs without a hitch. Be it Touring, Sport riding, stunting or even commuting and posing outside cafe's. I think, all those who have the money or have been saving up for a decent 250cc bike, should go ahead and get themselves a Ninja without any second thoughts. After havin spent a lot of time on the saddle of the ninja, I have come to realise that it will be a lot of fun and each time you wring that throttle, you will only realise its (maybe a lil more than needed) money well spent... nevertheless. |

You will get as many new theories as the number of calls you make in the Pune PBK showroom. They will be sure of what is happening only when 'Bajaj officials will come back after Diwali leaves'. |
