  • [Photo Feature]: A 1500km trip to Mountains and Coastline of Wales

To make the most of the summer weather and to get away from the crowds expected to hit London for the Olympics...my wife and I managed to sneak out for a week and rode mostly the winding back roads of Wales (a western region in the UK). Some pictures for your eyes...

Even though we didnt do more than 200miles, we both got very tired each tired. The backroads were so winding, with lots of crests and troughs that they kept us entertained. I m glad that we went off the motorways as we could see the small towns/villages popping up every few miles. We were glad not to see McDonals/KFCs in every corner and stuck to the local bars/restaurants.

A train, purely for the tourists

A roadside stop near a fishing lake

We managed to hire this self-drive boat and drove along some narrow canals - these are powered by electric motors, not IC engines

That pole helped us to steer the boat. We took a lot of effort to make a u-turn with this boat in strong water currents.

My wife wasnt complaining as she got to visit this Harry Potter beach - apparently this is where all the outdoor scenes were filmed. I just liked the beach for what it is..not Mr. Potter.

Some other local bikers making the most of the open roads. We hardly saw any sports bikes, most of them were lone BMW GSs with single riders. In USA, one usually comes across Harley groups..

A quaint town, Pembroke, once used to be the centre of the activity in the UK. Now people go there to 'get away from the maddening crowd' - what a transition!

A sea-side town called Borth. We watched the sunset over an ice creams - great way to wind down after a hard day

A much larger town, we gave this a skip. However, a downward sloping/incline road ran for half a mile...it gave a feeling of riding a roller coaster - my wife wasnt very happy

After a lot of searching and getting lost, we managed to find this place.

We found a great picnic spot, right by the cliffs and the blue sea

We visited this castle, but found no one else...we had the place all to ourselves.

These guys were grazing everywhere...no wonder I saw very few lawn mowers.

A back road that kissed the sides of the Snowdonia peak mountains - offered breath taking views...despite the foggy conditions.

Another view of Snowdonia nat. park

Mods: I posted this earlier, but the thread didnt get published. please remove if this is a duplication. thanks

    Beautiful pics.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I sold off my motorcycle today! sad to see her go...

The new buyer, a Hungarian, and his girl friend jumped on the bike and happily rode away.

My next bike is still sometime away.... and I will keep away from motorcycle websites, forums and magazines (for a while, ...to keep the salt away from my wounds )

                Safe Riding friends...
