Exclamation Karizma R or New Pulsar 220S

Hello All,

I need your unbiased opinion. To begin with, we have two bikes at home. Both are my dad's ( He is avid fan of biking). One is Yamaha Crux and other is Yamaha Rx 100.

As you know for the local mileage run we use Yamaha crux and in case we need mad power use Rx 100.

Now it is the time for me to buy my own ride. I'm 5.8 in height and 65 kg.
Requirements are:
  1. City riding 5 kms, Highway ride 30 Kms daily and ocassionaly go on a tour around 200 kms.
  2. I don't ride cramped up riding position, dont want to strain shoulders.
  3. Should be good tourer or similar with good amount of torque
  4. Main priority is, I would keep the bike for next 5 to 7 years. So I want a reliable machine.

As the title indicates, I am inclined towards Bajaj Pulsar 220S and Hero Honda Karizma R. I have test riden Karizma R and I liked the overall package a lot. The bike had enough power on reserve and good amount of torque. The seating position was comfortable.

However, I would like to know how would be the seating position and riding condition of Pulsar 220S with new clip on handle bar. Would the engine be reliable, I am very much keen on keeping the bike neat and servicing frequently.

Which bike will have a good pillion seating position?

I would straight away purchase Karizma R, however, new Pulsar 220S is tempting because of its advanced technology and features. I want to lay my hands on my new bike within 2 months. I'm very concerned in finalizing a stable bike, cause I wouldn't like to resell or buy a new one shortly.

I would appreciate for your opinions. Thanks in advance.

Go for the Karizma my friend, i fyou are planning to keep it for 5-7 years, it is one of the most reliable and comfortable bikes. I own a Pulsar 180 it is very good bike, but when it comes to long term ownership, comfort and quality, Karizma is ahead of the Pulsars. Lot of features dont really translate into a good bike

Wouldn't the Karizma R phased out soon? And do Pulsar 220S or 220F have vibration above 80kmph? Does Karizma has the vibration too?

To be clear, every bike will have vibrations at higher rpm and speed. But, is the vibration manageable?

mr soori, if ur worrying of phasing out of karizma then think of those ppl who bought 220 FI and it discontinued.

if ur planning for a reliable, trouble free and a smooth engine for 5-7 years then go for zma-r.

if u plan to have a bike with all sort of problems and engine blundering in 2 years then pls go ahead and buy a 220 s or f.

and yes 220 s doenst have any special technology, it is same carb bike like zma.

For the above 2 requirement of yours the only answer is Karizma (variants is your choice), book no other bike

220 FI is not phased out. it is still available on demand.

@topic,
If you can maintain your bike well, both will be reliable. from my experience, Reliablity depends mostly on owner and not on bike.

zma-r engine is one of the most stress free engine in its class, the silent one and vibration free upto speed of 100 km, after 100 km u could feel some vibes but these are negligible.

mr soori, if you could pls have a look at the pulsar 220 ownerhsip thread then u wud manage to see a large variety of problems in the bike, though zma- r also have a few minor issues but these are not demanding, all bikes have some issues but one has to see which one offers maximum reliability.
