Smile A replacement for my Honda Stunner.

Hi,

I ride my brothers Honda Stunner currently, and I am looking for a slightly more powerful and faster bike. I am ready to spend anything below 75k. With the ever rising cost of fuel, it becomes necessary and a compulsion to keep fuel economy in mind. A CONSISTENT Mileage of anything over 45 kmpl would be gr8 .
I mostly ride in the city but when i get my own steed i would love to spend more time on it and go for long rides, so riding comfort is as important as any other feature of the bike like power or refinement. I am fine with fairing or naked look.
I don't really mind any make or brand.

If you would like to stick to Honda, then look for unicorn Dazzler (Hero CBZ or Hero Hunk which shares the same engine), If you'd like to shell more then ZMA or ZMR or even CBR, when your budget permits.

Other options Yamaha SZX slighty heavier and faster than stunner providing a similar mileage or little lesser.

Also you could check out the Pulsars and the TV'ses.

Looking out for a more powerful bike in 75k and you even want mileage??
Tough question.

The only bikes which give you better power than the Stunner are the 150cc horses. Your can ignore all 150cc bikes except pulsar150, CBZ extreme/Hunk, Yamaha SZR since they are beyond your reach by atleast 5K to 10k rupees.

Regarding the mileage, you cannot expect more than 40-50kmpl from any of the above bikes. If someone says I get above 50kmpl on a 150cc bike, then he must be riding an unicorn or riding at real low rpm on top gear shift and not living within city, perhaps some village or on outskirts.

I own a Yamaha SZ-R and get a mileage of about 44-49kmpl, but I wouldn't recommend it to you since your budget is lot more than mine. My first choice was honda stunner/shine, or go for discover 150. But then I test drove the Yamaha SZR. The 153cc, same engine as in FZ16 felt like calling my attention. The bike was heavier than others in my choice within 60K budget, it gave good response at low rpm, with very good torque so you could pull away without much gear changes and gave decent fuel economy and top end model at about 67K was really good since the price difference from any other 75k-80K 150cc bike would in life time of this bike settle for any difference in cost I face on mileage. The engine is ofcourse reliable as we have seen with all the Yamaha FZ/fazers.

I did not choose Bajaj as cost of bike maintenance sky rockets once you cross 3-4years. I have a friend who owns a Pulsar 180 and its a good macho machine. But you will never know the expense it incurrs. He gets a mileage of about 35kmpl in city which is decent enough for his riding. But he also shells 2 to 5k at each service interval. Mind it he has only done 40K km on odometer and bike already feels old. I am not saying that bajaj is bad, but for the price of the bike, I would expect a little more durability of parts.

But if I did have some more money i would go for the CBZ extreme. It felt butter smooth like a unicorn but heard it has its share of problem like chain issues and starting trouble, but if maintained well by servicing at regular interval it gives good mileage of about 40-50kmpl. I said "what??" to the sales guy. But I heard they give 60+, and he said "yes sir, that was bikes before the BSIII emission norms. These vehicles wont give much, I will be frank that 40-50+ also is depending on your riding style" and I said, its better i stick to Yamaha then!

So don't take anyones advice. Try out the bikes and choose the one you like most., Regarding the mileage : Rather stick to your stunner if you want 60kmpl.

Are you sure about the bold part?? I mean come on, you can maintain a Honda city with that kind of money for service. To me, it sounds like lot of exaggeration, no offense meant. If you go for 4 or 5 of these type of services, i'm pretty sure you will end up with a brand new bike, I mean literally you can change most of the parts in a bike with that kind of money. And yeah, may be it's a bit too much to expect 45-50kmpl from 180cc bike.

TS, you got pretty decent options for that kind of budget.

Look at bikes like P150/Suzuki GS150R/Hunk/CBZ/Unicorn/Discover 150/Yamaha SZ-R. Since you got enough moola, you can go with GS150R/P150. They meet your expectations of mileage, will be a real upgrade for you as you are already using 125cc bike. Looking at spares availability/SVC availability it's better to go with P150. It's tried and tested, dirt cheap to maintain. I've used P135LS for almost a year, my only bills were for fuel and oil change. So, I can confidently say you can buy a Bajaj bike without hesitation.

But, yeah it's always better to take a test drive of available options, which will help you a lot.
