After loads of pleading and three consecutive hunger strikes, dad has finally agreed to sell off the mighty honda and buy 'himself' a bike!..to my surprise hes not happy with the ongoing conditions of motorcycling in India so couldnt have anything in mind except the p220 and the R15!..but now we are confused??
He would be riding it most of the times and his top priorities include comfortability and the bike's ability to move around easily in traffic and also should be able to overtake traffic with ease. He doesent tour much(and i cant!!) so the basically it would be in and around the city.!!.FE isnt a problem until and unless he is happy with the bike! What say guys?? ps-the 15 grand price difference isnt a problem though.

Thats a very tricky question. Had it been a bike intended for you, I could have easily asked you to go in for anyone that suits your taste and comfort. Since the bike is for your Dad, there are other things that are involved in this decision...so lets look at it this way
Yamaha R15: Great bike, nimble, powerful and very reliable. May not really present you with a lot of torque low down (as compared to the 220). The seating position is sporty but comfortable; this may or may not be to your dad's liking. P220: Great bike, raw power and torque. On the maintenance front, it may need more care than an R15. Frequent visits to PBK may not really be enjoyable. Handling is nice and seating is fairly sporty. The 220s seating posture may place more weight on the wrists initially till you find the correct position for your height. All in all, if YOU were choosing a bike for YOURSELF, you would not go wrong with either of these. But for your dad, I would recommend the Karizma. Have a look at what all the ZiMA offers HH Karizma (ZiMA): powerful and decent handler, proven reliability, quality is top class and you may not really require frequent visits to the service center. Seating position is very nice and you can actually much miles without feeling any fatigue. Finally, I would recommend the ZiMA.

dad thinks that the Zma is dated and lacks behind in tech stuff!!....but i think what is the use of such technology when one has to get it repaired every now and then!!...gotta think about HH now!

Well, I am not saying that the R15 and the P220 need frequent repairs; but I am sure that most owners of these bikes will agree that these bikes are beyond comparison when on a song. Its just that the solid engineering in the ZiMA makes it quite fault tolerant and a better option given that your dad will be riding it.
As an alternative, you can also think of the RTR Fi. It has all the technological bits that need to be there on modern day machines. The only downsides are smallish size and vibes at high speeds(as read in the RTR thread).

bro, if ur referring to 220 then tats not entirely true, trust me, if u like to take care of ur machine then ur machine will take care of you. atleast my machine has never left me stranded, its been around 16K kms now.
Bout R15, its the best bike with ref to technology rite now.not sure about its reliability but AFAIK its good, have riden along with two r15s for more than 500kms and both performed really well. But if u/ur dad wants a "fill it ride it" bike then go for ZMA. OT : Niranjan, is the DSG helmet sale still on ? |

rite said...but just the fact that the bike is intended for his dad means that the care factor might be treated as "extensive maintenance"; hence recommended the ZiMA.

power is spread at a wider rev range unlike R15 whose power starts frm 7k Rpm . It easily overtakes nearly everything and is a nice handler. If u want more comfort then go for Zma |
