  • p220 vs the R15

After loads of pleading and three consecutive hunger strikes, dad has finally agreed to sell off the mighty honda and buy 'himself' a bike!..to my surprise hes not happy with the ongoing conditions of motorcycling in India so couldnt have anything in mind except the p220 and the R15!..but now we are confused??

He would be riding it most of the times and his top priorities include comfortability and the bike's ability to move around easily in traffic and also should be able to overtake traffic with ease.
He doesent tour much(and i cant!!) so the basically it would be in and around the city.!!.FE isnt a problem until and unless he is happy with the bike!
    What say guys??

ps-the 15 grand price difference isnt a problem though.

Thats a very tricky question. Had it been a bike intended for you, I could have easily asked you to go in for anyone that suits your taste and comfort. Since the bike is for your Dad, there are other things that are involved in this decision...so lets look at it this way
Yamaha R15: Great bike, nimble, powerful and very reliable. May not really present you with a lot of torque low down (as compared to the 220). The seating position is sporty but comfortable; this may or may not be to your dad's liking.
P220: Great bike, raw power and torque. On the maintenance front, it may need more care than an R15. Frequent visits to PBK may not really be enjoyable. Handling is nice and seating is fairly sporty. The 220s seating posture may place more weight on the wrists initially till you find the correct position for your height.

All in all, if YOU were choosing a bike for YOURSELF, you would not go wrong with either of these. But for your dad, I would recommend the Karizma. Have a look at what all the ZiMA offers
HH Karizma (ZiMA): powerful and decent handler, proven reliability, quality is top class and you may not really require frequent visits to the service center. Seating position is very nice and you can actually much miles without feeling any fatigue.
Finally, I would recommend the ZiMA.

Both the bikes have their own pros and cons so ask your dad to make the decision on what they want. And as NV said Zma would be perfect for his needs.

dad thinks that the Zma is dated and lacks behind in tech stuff!!....but i think what is the use of such technology when one has to get it repaired every now and then!!...gotta think about HH now!

Well, I am not saying that the R15 and the P220 need frequent repairs; but I am sure that most owners of these bikes will agree that these bikes are beyond comparison when on a song. Its just that the solid engineering in the ZiMA makes it quite fault tolerant and a better option given that your dad will be riding it.

As an alternative, you can also think of the RTR Fi. It has all the technological bits that need to be there on modern day machines. The only downsides are smallish size and vibes at high speeds(as read in the RTR thread).

bro, if ur referring to 220 then tats not entirely true, trust me, if u like to take care of ur machine then ur machine will take care of you. atleast my machine has never left me stranded, its been around 16K kms now.

Bout R15, its the best bike with ref to technology rite now.not sure about its reliability but AFAIK its good, have riden along with two r15s for more than 500kms and both performed really well.

But if u/ur dad wants a "fill it ride it" bike then go for ZMA.

OT : Niranjan, is the DSG helmet sale still on ?
Aprilia RS 125 or Honda CB400 Vtec ..... which one will it be ??? I think its gonna be NINJA ZX 6R :-)

rite said...but just the fact that the bike is intended for his dad means that the care factor might be treated as "extensive maintenance"; hence recommended the ZiMA.

P220 is the 1 for u , its an all rounder -whether riding in traffic ,hills, highway
power is spread at a wider rev range unlike R15 whose power starts frm 7k Rpm . It easily overtakes nearly everything and is a nice handler.

If u want more comfort then go for Zma

ask your dad to take a test ride and see which one he wants .. also read the ownership thread of each of these bikes to understand their pros and cons .. there is no such thing as the right bike .. the rider and the ridden should connect.

Augusta, as per your requirements i.e. ciy commuting mostly....then the only recommandations i can give is the RTR/RTR Fi(Small bike with easy moving around in traffic) and to some extent ZiMA..this is so bcoz
                        1) i have the personal experience of this and have done lots of Traffic riding too on my ZiMA...
                        2) Bcoz of loads of power inside her which is required to overtake all these cars/trucks/etc. in the traffic and that in a short interval.

On the other hand, R15 can't be called a city commuter bcoz of it sports type seating position.....no doubt its the best handler in the current scenario but its not meant for taking short turns and maneuvering the vehicles in traffic..

Hope these points help you and your dad...!!

ZMA is the bike for you, dude.................. Still, i would say... Go and test ride both ZMA and P220.... See which 1 makes you comfortable......
No need to test ride R15....... It doesn't match your criteria......

                            Royal Enfield Bullet =]
That bike will move the same whether its one person or three people on it =]
Trust me,I went quadruples on one drunken night with 2 girl and 2 guys on it xD
                            Hehe
                            On topic,
I'd prefer 220,but it's a no messing around kinda bike.I've had all bad experiences with it..but its an good buy..Even the ZMA,though I never did drive a ZMA for more than a 100 kms.
RTR Fi is a good bike, boasts performance, handling and the likes...but it's kinda small ..if your dads a big guy , then it wont really work out well

Go for R15 rather than P220 , P220 needs more effort to drive than R15. P220 also heavier and taller than R15.
