Question for a tall alien

Hi, after my intro over in the who are you bit of this forum, I'd would want to ask you guys to help me settle my mind about what my next bike is going to be.

I'll try and give some background:
Currently I drive a Honda Shine 125, it's a nice bike, but I'm left wanting more. Especially, in the power and smoothness department while driving in the city.

I've checked just about every bike showroom by now and test ridden some variety of bikes.

About me: I'm from NL originally, and now live in ahmedabad permanently. I'm approx. 6 feet 2 inches (1.85m) and I do need to have proper comfort.

Budget: 1lac INR
My list of wants:
- Decent fuel efficiency when ridden sanely.
- Fuel injection (this is a must.)
- Should be reliable when taken care of properly.
- Good power in the lower RPM band.

I have already looked at:
- R15, couldn't shift gears properly due to my height and footrest placement. Low RPM power not confincing.
- Pulsar 220, right now I like this one best, but is it worth the doe?
- Pulsar 200, no FI... rumors about one coming, no rear disc.
- Apache RTR FI, seems to be a good bike, but I totally dislike it's looks.
- Karizma, again no FI, rumors about one coming, don't think i'll wait for it.
- RE 500cc, yes, checked it, hated it as I expected, this is one to be left for the ones that like it.

Maybe I've already dug this one out enough, but I'd like to hear your views on it, since I think that a lot of you have far more experience with the rides here, than I can gather in a short while. Thanks upfront!

look no further than P220 as of now. dont settle for carb engines
I hav also heard abt P200 Fi but again its almost an rumor.

if u can wait, wait or else go for 220. Its very gd for a person like of ur height.
Its got the best value for money in that price tag.

for your height and requirements, the P220,P200 and zma make the most sense(only if u can live with the carb 200 or zma).......all the 3 bikes are very good in their own regard....i love the zma too but then find it a bit dated....as of now i would vote for d 220 for you.......if you wana wait then you can or else P220 is the one for you

The Zma seems like a perfect fit if it weren't for FI as a requirement. The P220 mite vex you with refinement issues. Especially since you found the Shine itself to be inadequate in this regard.

Hope my reasoning helps

Cheers..!!

Thumbs up Your choices are: a) Karizma or b) Pulsar 220.

According to me the Karizma is the best. In the long run you will need to have a reliable bike. Being a Honda, the engine is practically bullet-proof. A steady right hand will also give you mileage above 35kpl. Since your budget is upto a Lakh, you could then invest in good riding gear and a better headlight with a better battery.

Otherwise the 220 is your bet. Suits most of your needs.
However, at the end of the day you may have issues with reliability and noise & vibration levels. (No offence to the bike or its owners)

In my humble opinion, the RTR Fi, though a very good bike, doesn't suit you mainly because you didn't like the design and secondly, the bike is too tiny for your physical stature.

Also, FI is still not fully localised in India. A carb bike can be repaired in a lot more places than a Fuel Injected one.

Personally, I have a Karizma, do wait for the P220 owners to leave their inputs here.

Hope you make a good decision.
All the best bud!

6)Alcohol is a strict NO!
7)Thou may lust after thy neighbour's bike specially if its of the R1 kind!
8)Thou shalt ride with 'ultra-most' care and caution when on Indian roads.
9)Thou shalt never leave the engine running at long traffic halts.
10)Thou shalt follow all of the above.

If you are determined that you do not want to go for a bike with carb, you will be left with only one option. The P220. Because I am 5'10" and I too find RTR small and initially I used to be a little uncomfortable with R15 (because of it's riding position, handle bar etc) but now I have become accustomed with the R15.
May be ZMA lacks modern technologies but it's an wonderful machine. The reliability, comfort level, smoothness it offers is no match for any other bike. My ZMA also gives me milage of over 40kmpl always.
