Sorry to disappoint you fellas, but I get that average on highways while touring & as a matter of fact many bikes riding with me on that speed bows down to its FE on highways. I had not done 64K, but yeh a mere 26K is also enough & sufficiant for me to check the FE a 100 times while I tour & I tour really very often.
Agreed about the high crosswinds, but not the normal crosswinds!

To say the least, I had still voted for P220 '09... Excepting the back-draws of the old technology in ZMAs, So yes there are REAL people who except facts too.

PEACE!!!

@DHAIRYA: congrats a ton man. Now you must read COMMITTED (if not already) in your profiles on public forums, you got a girfrend! (Oops! I forgot, Definately male)

@dhairya-Congrats.The best decision that one can make at this point of time.

Although the decision has been made but this thread can be used as a good reference point in future for similar buying purchase decision so here are some points which I would like to add.

I agree with most of the points that Ricci mentioned and we both are very similar in terms of ownership of bikes. My Karizma is close to 5 years old and P220 will complete 2 yrs day after tomorrow.

P220
Positives over Karizma-
1) Stock Headlight
2) Better stability at cross-winds.
3) Loads of torque
4) Better quality plastics.
5) Better quality clip-ons which generally don't get damaged on minor to moderate fall.
6) Constant mileage even during high speed runs.
7) Better speed & stability in off-roading conditions

Negatives -
1) RVM. They don't deserve to be called RVM.
2) Fairing vibes.I'm hoping that they solved the problem in the new 220.
3) Rear seat uncomfortable in case of long rides.
4) Front heavy. Doesn't move easily on corners

I'm not adding any points for Karizma as Steve summarised pretty well.

Karizma gives a mileage of 20-23km/lt at constant ripping of 115-120km/hr for a constant 3hr ride on highway whereas P220 Fi gives 28-29km/lt.Both gives more or less similar mileage in every other condition.Need to see whether P220 DTs-i is able to replicate the similar mileage figure as that of Fi on highways.

@MG: The ZMA returns twenty kilometres to an unleaded fuel!? Unbelievable! My nanny can extract more fuel efficiency on a superbike!

On a serious note, thats bad, but at a constant ripping of 120km/hr. one cannot really expect 40 kilometres to a litre.

P.S: Congrats on completing 2 years of the P220. Yours, I remember is one of the first Pulsar 220 DTS-FIs, in Delhi.

Aryan, Whenever on touring I almost maintain a constant speed of around 100 kmph. & I still get an average of around 40 kmpl. on my 1 1/2 yr. old ZMA, 26k kms done., Rider weight 60 kgs.
What I dont understand is that why people dont believe it, when someone services his bike around evry 1500 kms., puts a lot of Ks to maintain it in a very decent condition! Am in no mood of making a fool of myself on a public forum, specially here on xbhp. But If speaking truth n facts is making a fool out of me, then I cant help it, can I?
Am really very depressed for the first time on xbhp, seeing the way people reply sarcastically (sounds stupid to me) to someones experience & knowledge. Am not a pro, but not a noob either.
Sorry for going OT.

I wanted to PM you this, but a few people here are really ready to fight for no reason at all, hence posted here.

@Spiderweb: Totally understand what you say. Even I got a constant 52 kms. to a litre out of my P200 while riding on the plains, at a constant 90km/hr. or so, while on the hills I got 40-42 km/ litre during the whole Spiti ride. Maintenance and smoothness is the key, I believe.

Anyways.

@Dhairya: Will be waiting eagerly for the pictures of your 09'P220.
