Harley-Davidson X440T Review

440CC 27.3BHP 38NM

Harley-Davidson is a legendary name in motorcycling. A brand name that is as aspirational as it is sought-after. For the most part though, it has been out of reach for most people. But what if you could bring home a Harley-Davidson for just 2.35–2.79 lakh? With the launch of the X440, they did just that. And now with the launch of the brand new X440T, Harley-Davidson is clearly showing its intent to capture this end of the market as well.

The X440T is not just a cosmetic upgrade over the original X440; it is a deeper, more refined evolution inspired by Harley’s iconic race bikes, the XR750 and XR1200. This motorcycle aims to deliver heritage-rich styling, enhanced electronics, and improved performance without losing the rugged charm that made the first X440 popular.

Design & Styling

Harley-Davidson calls the X440T a neo roadster, but for me, it was a mix of Cafe Racer and Roadster, and the design updates justify this tag. The motorcycle draws inspiration from the brand’s celebrated flat trackers while blending modern simplicity with athletic proportions.

The X440T has got some good styling upgrades, including an all-new rear subframe with a redesigned tail section that looks awesome. In my opinion, it is much better than the original X440 and matches the vibe of the iconic XR1200 more closely. Just a side note, the XR1200 was there as well, next to the X440T at the launch event.

The X440T also gets sporty bar-end mirrors for an aggressive stance, and this addition made the bike more like a cafe racer. Another instance that cemented these thoughts of mine was seeing a bunch of them in formation at the Whispering Cafe, where we rode to.

The new motorcycle also gets new fuel tank graphics that add to the whole vibe of the motorcycle without looking too in-your-face. Understated charm is the name of the game, and the X440T has aced this game. Harley-Davidson has always been associated with ‘metal’, both in the sense of music and its build quality. With the X440T, that ideology is maintained; more of metal and less of all else.

The reworked exhaust also looks good and now gets a heat shield and an end cap as well. But I personally felt that if the end cap comes loose after a while, it might rattle and sound like an anklet. Finally, there are new colours as well: Pearly Red, Pearl White, Pearl Blue, Vivid Black. Personally, I loved the Red and White one, which also matched my helmet- the xBhp Axor Bionic.

The fourth collaboration between xBhp and Axor brings to you the xBhp-Axor Bionic helmet. Based on the tried and tested Axor Apex platform, the helmet promises top-notch safety, comfort, and style that is augmented by the graphics symbolizing the connection between man and machine, the bond of flesh and metal that this helmet brings to life everytime you take your beloved machine out for a ride.

Overall, the X440T looks sharper, cleaner, and more proportionate than the X440. And that is saying something because there was not a lot wrong with the X440 either. But the X440T looks more youthful and dynamic, making it ideal for urban riders who value style as much as substance.

Performance & Electronics

The X440T was not just a visual exercise either. The brand has worked a fair bit on the performance package as well. Not a big change, but small meaningful changes. The changes are focused on safety and rider feel. Under the redesigned bodywork, the motorcycle continues with the dependable and torquey 440cc heart. The 440cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 27.3 bhp of power along with 38 Nm of torque.

First off, the X440T now has ride-by-wire instead of the traditional system on the X440. This resulted in a minor bump in power, from 27 to 27.3 bhp. The system has also helped in the delivery of the 38 Nm of torque that is on offer. With ride-by-wire comes riding modes. The X440T gets Road and Rain. I tried both, and there is a tangible difference between the two. Again, the Rain mode will make the torque more manageable in adverse weather and road conditions.

The X440T also gets dual-channel ABS and traction control. They both can be switched off (rear wheel on ABS), but only in the road mode, which also makes sense. There’s also a panic braking alert system, which I feel is a great add-on to have. While the engine remains the same as the previous X440, the electronic tuning and ride-by-wire system help deliver a noticeably more refined riding experience. The torquey nature of the engine continues to make the motorcycle fun within city limits.

Overall, the changes over the X440 make the X440T a safer, more manageable, and more confidence-inspiring motorcycle.

The riding gear seen here comes from Rynox, and these three are perfect for everyday rides and even longer hauls. The Apex Evo Jacket, and the Tornado Pro Pants are a stellar combination that blend comfort, everyday usability and protection in a package that makes you stand out from the crowd!

Riding Experience in Goa

I had the opportunity to test the Harley-Davidson X440T in the scenic paradise of Goa, a region filled with bright blue skies, lush green trees, and charming Portuguese-era churches at almost every corner. The X440T felt right at home in this environment. The motorcycle’s neo-roadster and cafe racer character blends effortlessly with Goa’s relaxed, lifestyle-driven vibe. As we rode under leafy canopies and past countless whitewashed churches, the X440T felt like a perfect companion. Goa’s soothing roads and picturesque backdrops showcased the bike’s comfort and urban-friendly setup.

With Smooth throttle response thanks to ride-by-wire, great torque for overtakes and traffic navigation, and a lightweight feel, the X440T is very fun to ride. The electronics also go a long way in making the rider more confident than ever when push comes to shove. And all of this, paired with the legacy of the brand, makes the X440T an alluring proposition. After all that, think of the price tag, and one feels rather inclined towards a visit to their nearest showroom!

Long-Distance Touring

While the X440T excels in urban environments, long rides highlight one area of improvement: seating comfort. The seat padding remains on the firmer side and may feel less comfortable during extended highway rides. Upgrading to a touring seat would significantly improve long-distance comfort.

Final Verdict

The Harley-Davidson X440T successfully blends heritage, modern styling, improved electronics, and accessible pricing. It’s a motorcycle that appeals to urban riders, lifestyle motorcyclists, beginners wanting an entry into the Harley culture, and riders who appreciate design and torque-rich engines.

With pricing starting from ₹2.35 lakh and going up to ₹2.79 lakh, Harley has made owning a Harley-Davidson more achievable and affordable than ever. If you’re looking for a motorcycle that fuses iconic heritage with modern practicality and looks stunning while doing it, the Harley-Davidson X440T is unquestionably worth considering.
