Re: How to get best mileage from your bike
What is the effect of coasting in bike?
In car, when coasting in gear, fuel cuts off and hence better for fuel efficiency; and when coasting in neutral/clutch engaged, a small amount of fuel is injected to keep the idling.
How is it in case of bike in both the cases?

How to get proper mileage on any bike
So its my frst thread n m a noobs here...
But what i have seen and frm my experience writing this.Hope it helps those who don't know this..
So for proper mileage first of all adjust ur tappet clearance its just basic n have to do it..then u need to tune ur carburetor.. And lastly adjust ur clutch freeplay put it between 1-2cms or 10-20mm...
If i have written anything wrong do let me inform..
Thank u.Last edited by nilangshu94; 02-08-2016, 10:40 PM.

Re: How to get best mileage from your bike
Partially true. Partially because exactly what speed you need to maintain and for how many Kms, will be specific to your make and model and specified in your motor manufacturer manual.Originally posted by Arpit Mehta View PostHi guys.. I am planning to buy new bike.. I somewhere read that for new bikes keep the speed below 50 for 1st 1k kms.. And below 60 for 1st 2k kms to get better mileage.. Is that true?
This is called 'Running In' and is mainly done because the newly installed engine will have some wear and tear until all the parts properly set in. (speaking in layman terms)
BUT, Speed is not the only aspect you need to watch out for. company will specify speed, which means proportionately you also have to follow certain limit to RPM as well. so no extreme revving, no upslope climbs at full load, no engine braking at downslope at full load and high speed, etc.
many manufacturers will specify speed limits for every gear as well.
I hope you get the general idea about this. if not feel free to pitch your doubts!Last edited by rugved; 03-07-2016, 02:42 PM.

Re: How to get best mileage from your bike
I generally follow some rules which I can share.
1. I warm up the engine twice in a day. Once while going to the office in the morning and then while returning. No matter what is the season - yes in the summer as well.
2. I go through all the gears at least twice in the first 0.5 km.s to ensure smooth operation of the gearbox.
3. I avoid redlining and outright pick ups.
4. I DON'T overburden my bike with weight.
5. I take care care of the sprockets by cleaning and lubricating them at regular intervals.
6. I ensure optimal tyre pressure. I've seen people putting in 38-40 psi in a Super Splendor. God knows what they will do with so much of pressure. I also have seen people not putting in any pressure at all for 3 months! Apart from decreasing the road grip, too much and too low pressure reduces mileage.
7. I change the air-filter every year.
At any given speed, the highest possible gear will give you the maximum mileage and the lowest possible gear will give you the maximum power. But that does not mean you should start riding 20kmph @ 5th/6th gear on your CBR250/RS200!
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

You stole the words right out of me.Originally posted by krishna77 View PostI generally follow some rules which I can share.

I do the same.
Also one more thing i do is, if the bike's been stationery for 4-5 (or more) hours, i always prime the engine by 2 slow kicks on kick starter, With Ignition Off. This is to ensure that the engine oil which has retracted back to the sump, gets circulated again. But then this is more for engine life and has almost nothing to directly impact FE.
Another thing you we can do for more FE is, Anticipate the traffic and road. If you can see a speed bump/pot hole/pedestrian crossing/any dang reason to cause you to slow down ahead, then you better start dropping speed by letting go of the throttle (a few meters from it, not from miles away
). No use burning fuel accelerating till a Bump only to hit brakes right before it.
Kill ignition at signals (you be your own judge as to how many seconds should be left in count down, minimum, for you to shut the engine).
