    Helmet is a Must... Why?

Most people consider helmet as a waste of money and even if they buy one they won't wear it. For them it's to get protection from a fining cop and not for their head. I have seen people riding bikes keeping the helmet on various parts of bike like mirror, carrier and handle. Some people even wear it on their hands. Some have gone to the extent that they just place half way through especially a full faced one. So if they see a cop they just pull it down.
Even if some wear its with out strapping.
During a fall helmet is the first thing that fly off if its not strapped.
A good article, an eye opener. I think these should be given as much as publicity so that people who have no Internet access should also know the importance of wearing helmet.

Helmet is the most important thing while on 2 wheels. Last Saturday I was on my way towards Mekhri circle from Hebbal on and right in front of the Baptist Hospital with my friend doing about 40 KMPH and an old man (mostly in his late 60's) slams his brakes right in the middle of the left most lane. No time to react and I swerved left and BANG. I am thrown off the bike onto the road and my friend luckily fell onto the left side.
Helmet cracked and bruises on my right leg and shoulder. Luckily nothing serious happened but the bike took quite a bad hit. Crash guard bent, both the right side foot pegs damaged and has to be replaced.

One thing I have realised is never to take your eyes off the road even for a second. You never know what coming or stopping. Pathetic weekend overall.

Re: Helmet is a Must... Why?

My views are that a helmet is an important piece of accessories for a 2-wheeler rider on the road.....guys helmets protect your head...the master of your body that controls you !!
I have had a face scar which is now gone....though I met with accident just a few metres away from my home in my street....a crazy cyclist kid who was looking back came before me on a turn....i had little time to react and I tried to swerve..but instead hit an electric pole as my bike slipped on a gravel mountain and I was kissing the ground.....my face got very badly bruised.....from then on I always remember to wear a helmet....
And well guys.....SOL.Vega.Gliders.Studds offer very good looking and good at safety helmets..... I have tried atleast one from all those brands....all off roaders excluding SOL.....broke Studds on a fall....Vega sold off as hated its quality snd shaky nature at higher speeds.....now using a Gliders MC1..with those really cool Monster Energy graphics.....protection with looks.....i love wearing helmets although there are no hard and fast rules in my city.....changed 4 helmets in 6 months..hehe....

Mumbai - yes, but it seems that they do not bother riders with proper/standard looking helmet (so LS2, Cross, SOL etc. is out of Q). They do stop the ones with half-faced, old, cap type, factory worker type helmet-walas.
I reside in Bangalore & till now there is no report on such actions.

Re: Helmet is a Must... Why?

Pretty obvious i guess helmets are for safety they guard our heads and also send moral messages to our younger siblings and other kids too.
Helmet is a must yess. But theres a thin line between being free removing all gears and helmets and riding accessories and wearing them and being safe. Because theres a time when few people or should i say few naturalists feel free to remove off all gears and glide slowly through the wind enjoying nature natural-ishly. Thats the time where a man is right out there in the moment with his alone head facing the blind deaf stone alone feeling free and unconcealed. Such few moments can be spared i guess. Few as they are. And if a pic is uploaded from such a scene, it gets flooded by comments by 'bikers' and people belonging to it. But theres a hairline difference between removing helmets for a moment and being safe. I do so too but at few moments when i wanto feel free get dissolve in the moment enjoy the exstasy of it. But those are my alone times. When i ride im in gears helmets pads. So you get the picture i guess.
but yess there are pretenders posers out there i agree.

Re: Helmet is a Must... Why?

Yes full face helmets are very important. It is surprising to note that helmets are considered as a style gear as well that matches the looks of the bike forgetting the safety aspects. However they at least wear it.
I once had a bunch of traffic policemen handing over pamphlets that had messages to public on importance of wearing helmets, avoiding drunken driving, emergency contact numbers, etc., to everybody waiting at the signal. Even the Inspector was at the campaign I guess. I just kept it in my pocket and watching the countdown while a policeman came near me and I was horrified (my bike's insurance papers were due ;-)) He gave a gentle pat on my shoulder and requested me to strap on the helmet to the chin and made a point that I did immediately. He was smiling all the while. And when I did it he thanked me for that. Unbelievable good gesture right??? I zoomed off upon getting the 'green' before he could change his mind and start with papers and all that!!!

If half helmets are not safe why ISI approved helmets are sold by major helmet manf companies
