Folks you can have a question on why the title is termed as "Graduation to Zero BHP". In my opinion switching from a vehicle which leaves behind a carbon foot print to a non polluting vehicle should always be called a graduation.
I was planning to buy a cycle in few months. I still missed my Hercules MTB 9000 from my school days .Shared this idea with one of my dear friend. He already had Hercules Top Gear in his stable. It was left in dire straits as he was living in Pune to pursue higher education. He told me that i can have it if i did all the repair work. Gladly i accepted his offer.
The bike was around 12 years old. I took it to a nearby repair shop. They have changed the tires (normal nylon tyres), serviced the bike. Checked the Shimano 6 speed gear system.. It still rides well. I am taking it slow as i will be on a bike saddle after a longggg time. Currently i am riding it for 5kms daily in the morning. Once i get some confidence with it i will increase the distance.
I am 6.1 feet tall and i weigh 87kg. So i had to adjust the seat height after doing some research on the internet. Currently only my toes are touching the ground.
Problems- 1. Firstly the brakes makes a squealing sound when i press them. I took it to a mechanic. He told me that there is nothing that could be done to stop the noise. It will dissapear after the brakes wear off a little. I also asked him about "toeing" the brakes. He did not have any idea about it. Guess it will be my DIY job for the weekend.
2. The lower gears, 1st 2nd and 3rd works very smoothly. Gear 4, 5 and 6 has some vibrations to it. Would appreciate help on what to do with this.
3. The saddle is rock hard. It is really a pain in the place where the sun doesnt shine. So my question is, will it get better with time as i am cycling after a long time its a process of just getting used to a different dimension of saddle or should i get myself a gel cover. The original bike i think came with a spring seat but currently the seat does not any springs.
I am really elated to be back to cycling. Well our good old monk has been really an inspiration towards this. Please treat me as a novice when it comes to cycling. Any comments or suggestions are most welcome.
I will be riding this bike for atleast a year or so before I upgrade to a better one so any suggestions for upgrades for this bike to make it Road worthy is welcome.

), but thought of atleast cycling to office by parking my bike at my Dad's office which is not too far away from there. But everyday I realize this is a bad idea as even cyclists are not spared by the horrendous traffic of Hinjewadi!!
