planning for rockshox dart 3, the person is asking 9K for the deal...is it ok?? how u will consider this against manitou stance...
my friend gets the parts for me from abroad.
the major difference between the rockshox dart and the manitou stance is that, the former is a cross country fork, its not designed to handle abuse. whereas the manitou stance is built for dirtjumping and stuff . my manitou costs 8 grands bcuz its a second hand fork, brand new, it would cost me much more. still i guess 9k for a rockshox dart is a bit on the heavy side...dunno..ummm..7 or 8 grands is okay i presume.

The "post mount" is pretty similar to "radial mount" brake of a motorbike.

            • Hi

I'm looking to Purchase a good Bicycle for Basic Usage!!
              No Stunting.
I want to use it to travel to my office everyday - Distance is 29k one way.
I Don have a Bicycle now at home.
It has to be comfortable for every day Usage - Like Shocks & Gears.
Also Safety is important so Disks are Must!!!
Can I gt some Expert Advise on this??
The Price range also if provided would be great!!!

Need to Add I'm 5.5" Height.

Distance is 29k one way = Your best bet would be Road bike or Hybrid -like BSA Photon. Weight is a vital factor here. Lighter bikes fly like darts. 29k*2 every day! weekend affairs are just 100k here.
Shocks & Gears= Road bikes dont come with shocks. If you want shocks, go for an MTB. But the fat knobby MTB tires will tire you down -You could fit thinner tires. Desiring shocks? - go for hardtail MTBs;avoid FS ones - The rear suspension will soak up some of your pedalling effort transmitted to the rear.
Gears= are desirable, to save our knees from bursting in the long run. Atleast 15 speed (3*5). Most bikes come with 21 speed.

Disks are Must = Again Road bikes dont come with discs. You dont need them unless you are doing crazy downhills in wet, slushy terrains. Folks in Bangalore do cross country trails on Trek & Merida MTBs with caliper/vbrakes.

Price range= Imported road bikes are priced 25k & above, but are real VFM in the long run. Have not much idea-brands-reviews about import RBs though. Import MTB's are 15k & above-VFM again. Hero Thunder Racer, Thunder MTB are other choices. BTW Hercules is coming up with ACT Ryder hardtails in mid June, if you could wait..
5.5" Height= Videsi bikes come in varying frame sizes. You could adjust the seat post, handlebar heights on any bike.

BTW, how long did it take for your post to appear on BZ?

Better, visit a dealer & ask for a test ride.
I got a Hero Thunder Racer recently.
                Cheers!

Yeah a price range of 10-15k seems reasonable.
                    any suggestions in that range??

                    @ Rajiv_359

How much is it in INDIA??
                    Is it Avail In HYDERABAD??

I don wanna spend crazy amounts as this is my First Bicycle after 10-12 years.

Not pretty sure about Hyderabad but u can check with your dealers...also understood the point about money, but once you will have a good (not expensive) bike you will start loving it...Now a days I am not touching my 180 even on weekends (only special rides)...why I suggested hybrid?
It has a very good frame geometry, make(trek) and Al alloy makes it really light, Its riding posture is definitely better than any MTB for commuting, Its 80mm front suspension will also allow you to relax about bad roads (unlike road bikes). Overall its a great bike to start with...yes to start with because eventually u will fall in love with it and u may spend a lot after this which u have never thought of. I have a Viper from Firefox (dont know about hybrid from this brand), u can also consider LA-Navigator (10K) or Hero Thunder(6.5K). Welcome to biking world trust me its a great experience.

                        Imported entry level MTB's:
                        Merida Matts SUB5, Matts SUB10
                        Btwin Rockrider 5.1, 5.2
                        Canondale F9
..not drawn much to Treks. But you'll never go wrong with a Trek

Indian VFM MTB for half the price:
                        Hercules Ryder ACT 105
                        Hero Thunder MTB comes close.
Again, if willing to wait till mid - June, more choices in Hercules.

you could fit thinner tyres on the MTB
got not much idea on hybrids.

                        • hey AI.. dude you're just the man i've been looking for! I used to do a lot of cycling on my Swing 21 uptil 10th standard. Then dad bought me a cbz and the swing was disposed off. I always wanted a Firefox as a kid, but my parents didn't see any logic in getting me such an expensive bike.

So now i've graduated and started my first job. Now i'm getting all nostalgic thinking of my earlier days and have decided to buy a nice bike. I am confused between the FF Reloaded and the BSA Ryders 106/107.

Although i'll blow up all my stipend in buying a bike, i'll still go in for it so that my soul can rest in peace when i pass away Which one do you think is better??? And considering the type of frame i like, are there any other brands that you'd suggest?? I liked the Suncross which ken gifted to his son...

                          Waiting eagerly for your reply

                            hey ron!

choosing a bike depends a lot on the kind of ridin you do, if its mostly urban commutes, i'd suggest you go for a hardtail , in other words, bikes with NO rear suspension, if you're someone who favours offroad, then you should go for FS bikes , i.e. bikes with rear suspension. the reason being, FS bikes no matter how trick lookin they are, rob some of your pedalling efforts into somethin called as 'bobbing' which is a lot similar to you goin 'boing-boing' on a pogo stick! which translates to loads of wasted energy. on the basis of looks alone, i'd suggest the bsa ryders. looks beefier than the reloaded.

the suncross which ken gifted his son is has 24" wheels ( not very sure, cant judge from the snaps, but i have a strong feeling it is..) there is nothing wrong with 24" wheels, lots of riders in firang land, ride 24 inchers, but the frames are built for adults, which means a top tube length of 21+ inches. unfortunately in our country we still dont get bikes like these, the suncross has a very short top tube, since its targeted towards kids, which could make you feel cramped while riding.

here is a good example of a 24inch wheeled bike built for adults
                            its a 'dmr rhythm' http://www.sunsetmtb.co.uk/images/sh...1208344846.jpg

hope i've helped you. let me know if you need anymore info !!!

                              • @AI: Hey thanks for your reply man! But tell me something.... is it worth spending 10k on an indian bike such as the ryder series.. or should i go in for a firefox for 15k?? Lets leave the budget part aside for sometime... lutna hai to pura luto na! kachha bhi kyu chodo

I'm not very inclined towards hardtail ones.. Although i'd be using it for urban riding mostly... I liked the Viper as well.. and i'm inclined towards the Reloaded as well.. So basically.. I'M CONFUSED AS HELL!!
