@ Mik: I really wonder if it will be worthwhile for any of us to go to Leh on a pleasure ride at this moment. The situation there is no good for sheer tourism.
@ All: understanding the fact that perhaps road is not the right way to reach Leh this point in time and Airway might be out of question due to budgetary constrains, how about giving non-perishable things in the likes of Clothes, Tents etc which can be shipped once the roads are any better. Further more, owing to the wonderful attitude of WE people towards the people in need ( we don’t forget to mint money sitting on people’s grave either), I would not suggest Cash Donations. I know I am being cynical with this but lets not forget that Cash tends to be used in not-the-right-direction. Hence, Clothes, Tents, books etc. can be donated after packing them decently, so that they do not get worse by the time they reach their destination. The BRO and the Army are putting their best foot forward in reconstructing the road links, though it may take some time. In the mean time, like minded people can collect the stuff to be delivered to Leh and once the roads are any better, the same can be transported to the destination. The money toward the logistic part can again come from the volunteers, but I would suggest no cash donations.

P.S: I might have sounded offensive to some, but its hurting to see large amount of public money going into constructing palaces for the bureaucrats. Hence, my suggestion of not giving help in CASH. Rather, give things that can be utilized by the needy.
