  • Career Advice Required

    Hi Friends,

i want your help please. my cousin is doing BCA(Bachelor of computer applications) from Vivekananda institute of professional studies, IP university, Delhi. he is in final year, but the problem is that he has 4 back papers in that sense he would not be able to take admission to MCA, MBA regular atleast.

i think he also would not be able to do a correspondence course unless he gets a degree.

He is good in studies but due to some family situations he could not study well which resulted in back papers.

Now i request you all guys to gice me advice that what should he do in the one year period. As he would not be able to take the degree in 2011, only he will clear in dec, 11 and he will get degree in early 2012 so he would be able o do a regular course from 2012.

I have suggested him doing DOEACC "A" Level course as he is eleigible to do it. How is this "A" Level course? i tried googling and fond that it is equivalent to PGDCA.

What other options he has to do? What other course he can do from the period of july 2011 to april 2012?

    Please suggest.

ok, its always sad to have backs but you can utilize the one year period by doing short term course from reputed institutes like NIIT which adds value to your career.

      Best of luck

I am a GNIITian and Oracle certified from NIIT...
Enquire about NIIT's short term courses, they will indeed help alot.
Loads of certification programs are there which will help your brother in long run.

BTW : If NIIT then only C.P or South Ex

If your brother is wanting to setup his career in software development, ask him which domain he is more interested in i.e. Java, .Net, Open System [C/C++] or a DBA [Database Administrator].
Once he narrows it down, ash him to take up the specific certification i.e. IBM or Microsoft or Oracle Certified Developer. These certifications doesn't require any prerequisits but are a little tough but since you mentioned he is good at it, he should go for it

I would prefer the other two that I wrote.
I am a DBA (Oracle 9i) so he needs to clear all the four module of Oracle to get the certification.
HCL DC : I work for HCL Business Services. I don't know when HCL- DC started but it will give an opportunity to your brother to enter HCL Infosystems after the course gets over.

As prateek said NIIT centers have to be good as there are many centers of NIIT which promise your course to finish in 3 months but takes one year, i experienced when i was doing my college, you can also check IIHT

                      Be +ve

Hey Karizmatic there is no need for your cousin to worry about a few downs in life...dont be panicky and also avoid fear about the future...
He got to regard this as part of life experience...

                      Some advise to him:
                      >> His backpapers, are they because he found the subjects hard due to lack of understanding OR rather lack of genuine interest .
                      >> If former just a bit more concentrated study with help from question banks would be ideal...

Also since there is time for the next appearance, he can as rightly pointed out by others, appear for a short term software/networking/Arts course solely based on HIS INTEREST...

Regarding CCNA, From my short networking experience (I am a elec. engineer with CCIE Sec) if his interest lies in Networking, basic networking courses from Cisco/Microsoft would not help him and rather mostly land him in a BPO/KPO...Unless he sticks with networking and plans higher certs, CCNA is waste of time, money and opportunity (wasted in a BPO).... I honestly believe one should go for networking courses if one has passion to progress and go furthur with higher certs, rather than just limiting yourself with a first job.
And I am afraid the same would apply to software as well...

Bottomline: Choose a path which you would have interest in and would take an active interest to progress in .

But no matter what job/course he plans to do meantime... remember that getting an undergraduate degree (BCA) is foremost priority. Rest is all to improve quality of your education...

But if the reason for the backpapers is the latter ie. lack of interest, once he clears BCA (its a must), instead of doing masters, he should go for a degree/cert which He Prefers. Leave MCA out.

Now perhaps my tone here might be scary , I believe he should be 20~23 yrs old, plenty of time to take chances / change paths and experiment... He just got to make sure that by 27 yrs, He is on his preferred Road using his preferred Ride, as simple as that Cheerios
