If you are using Android 4.1 and above then the solution lies in clearing the defaults for your browser/email app, I assume at some point you must have given "always open with browser" when checking a link and hence default is set to browser.
You need to go to application manager and clear defaults for the above mentioned and then next time you click a link you will be given the option screen again: "open with maps","open in browser","open in navigation" (or something like this. Select your option this time and choose to make it default.

This worked for me recently.

When i use gmap the dot representing my current location keeps rotating in all directions doesnt stop....
mine is jellybean 4.1.2
anybody with this problem??
will it be solved by updating the gmap app???

I have tried this only on the 4.1 and latest jellybean. It worked both times.

Android 2.3.6, its samsung galaxy ace, quite old one.

Goto this option in both gmap and your browser
And just clear defaults
It would make everything the way it should be.

Settings>apps> (browser and gmaps)

thanks snehithpereira & dh0rules, this method is not working as there is no defaults to be cleared and it shows "no default set" just like the picture you have attached.i have found a workaround so issue solved.
