The closest Chop-Shop for automobiles to Bandra is Kurla, especially the Automobile Spares Market adjoining Kapadia Nagar near LBS Road. Its also known as Kurla's own Chor Bazaar for Automobile Spares. Check it ASAP.
Yes I did visit the Kurla CST Road market very next day and also the day after it. It just feels impossible to find anything there. There are too many shops selling way too many parts. If the bike's been dismantled then practically thinking its impossible to find it back

Awesome penno!! Was the bike abandoned?? I guess the thief was just an opportunist and when he seen the keys on the bike i guess he might have just wanted to take it for a joy ride. Lucky you!

Glad you got the bike back, I may have seen it that evening on St Andrews Road, I was outside the exit for Holy family having a smoke, sometime between 7.30 and 9.30, I remember seeing a yellow R15 with 2 guys on it, no helmets and the bike I saw had a the sarree guard/bbq grill contraption thing on it, if i recall correctly it was raining (drizzle) around that time.

Guys , Sorry for the the late response , was busy working a bit with the bike.

I think I'll share this , 4days after the Mumbai serial bomb blasts , a Police constable came to my place asking about my stolen bike. I was surprised as well as scared cause i didnt expect that the Police to be at my place even if they find my bike, cause every time i asked them they said we'll inform u on phone. So Police coming to my place worried me a bit. But then keeping no suspense he gave me a letter in marathi which said a Yellow Bike reg. no MH 02 BS 5663 is lying at Mahim Police station from a few days. At that moment my joy knew no bounds , i was just happily shocked.
He asked me to report to the Mahim Police Station Store incharge asap.
I did the same where the store incharge asked me to report to bandra police station sayin that since the complaint is registered at bandra , bandra police station will have to take the bike in custody. I contact the officer incharge of the case and bought the bike to bandra police station.
There after , I had to do apply for a "Return of Property" in bandra court.
It took 3days in the entire process and then i got the copy of the court order. Next day i presented it at Bandra Police station after which they gave the bike in my custody i.e once again i was the legal owner of the bike

                          Damages on the bike :
                          1. Both RVM's gone along with windshield screws
                          2. Monograms on tank gone
                          3. My RJAYS SAMURAI gone ...now i shud be happy dat i got the bike...but 4k
                          4. Rear number plate gone. Luckily i had a sticker as my front number plate which wasnt tampered and helped them trace me through RTO , because they didnt know it was an Yamaha, they couldnt find the engine no. , they would've never found the chassis number cause they didnt have the keys.
I just consider myself lucky with this

Rest of the body is intact. No scratches.I beleive my bike was left in Mahim the same night when it was stolen because the odometer reading from the time it got stolen to the point i checked it parked in police station was around 25-30kms. The police didnt even tell me where it was found, he just said it was found in our area.So i didnt ask much about it coz what ive learnt is you cannot ask more than 2question to Police guys, anything more than sets them up on fire :P

So , end of the day , I'm just way too lucky and way too happy for whatever has happened. I'd really thank the Mumbai Police for this

Whai I have learnt from the experience is , though I give all the credit to the Police for getting my bike back , they arent really helpful untill they find it. The day they find it things change all around, cause thats when the chaai-paani thing on every stage starts (even 2copies of xerox cost me 100rs,dats how bad it is).
When i was at the Mahim storeroom , there was another police constable with me who had lost his bike in 2007 and that too when he was on-duty :P and founf it in 2011 .
So its like , u'l always have to keep your fingers crossed .People have found their cars and bikes stolen Mumbai , outside the state as well.

Dude , things were very bad for me , my insurance had expired when it was stolen. I was in middle of a serious loss

Glad you found your bike. Just to be safe buy a thick cable lock and lock the rear wheel with it. With the handle and the rear wheel locked it will prove more time consuming for the thieves to steal your ride... Not impossible, but another deterrent. If you can lock the wheel to a pole or railing when parked all the more better. Also remember not to leave the keys on the bike irrespective of how many locks you have on the bike.

Enter reminders in your phone and PC for all insurance policy renewals etc. Most of the time, the renewal notice from the insurance office is late or doesn't reach the person at all.

In your case, you were really lucky to have found the bike. Since your insurance had expired, if your bike was not found, the insurance co. would have denied any compensation no matter how much the premium was or what the circumstances were.
