Night Riding Tips

    Though I will agree with all of you that night driving is very dangerous coz of drunk 4 wheeled drivers, incoming headlamp glares, glares thru RVMs, etc, etc. I still prefer riding at night alottt (purely personal choice) keeping in mind certain safety precautions:
    1) Riding at low & stable speeds of 60 kmph. (Both on highway n city roads)
    2)wearing Red shades inside my helmet that almost deflects n zeroes the headlamp glares + the orange streetlamp glares too.
    3)following the tail light of the vehicle ahead of you.
    4)always using the flicker (upper/dipper) while overtaking.
    5)using of indicators while changing lanes or to stop.
    6)& immidietly halting n having tea/coffee if feeling sleepy.

    The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.

        @Hitanshu : I agree with you that the best time to ride can be late at night/early morn. The sun rising and the cool wind . Most of my touring starts at 3-4 am too.
        However, on some stretches of road (Either busy roads with no streetlights/potholed roads) night riding can be a major hassle in a city.
        I like to approach my ride with the number of variables on the roads. At day time, its all very clear( the poser/doodhwaala/aunties crossing road without a care in the world/qualis storming and cutting you out from the left etc) but at night, its so darn difficult.
        A frequent situation i face in Noida:: An oncoming Accord/Civic with headlights blazing, me frantically dipping up and down, and a rickshaw/pedestrian beyond my headlight vision, ready to jump into my path

        Only option: Go slow and be aware.

          If you are an avid night rider, just go for it... but specifically pure-red ones only.

            For co-ordination at night, when riding in a group, us a pair of powerful LED on both the front and rear of the bike, so that you can track a mate from, say, a quarter of a kilometer. We lost track of each other when returning from Vizag to BBSR in the dark and often used to speed past others waiting for us.

            PS: Need to know how to make a connection, so that the four LEDs light up when the key is in ON position and the main headlamp is on (AC bike setup, so that waiting on road side won't require starting the bike).

              One of the ways to avoid reflection on RVM is to tilt it slightly downwards... By doing so, the RVM have a small tinge of glow when the vehicle that's coming from far away and you'll still have a hint that some1's coming behind you... As the other vehicle comes near you, only then, it comes in your RVM... I do this when am driving at nite and it helps a lot
