  • Brothers from Punjab - Help!

    Hi guys,
I am working in an IT company and may be deputed to Punjab on a short term basis. Now I may be posted in any of the 3 places, viz. 1. Lehra Mohabbat 2. Ropar or 3. Bhatinda..........the locations of the 3 thermal power plants.
Personally I will prefer 2. Ropar for its proximity to major tourist spots and also to Chandigarh.

I wish to bring my bike along with me. But the problem is that for a few days initially, I won't be able to keep my bike with me
I wish to keep my bike with a trusted xbhp friend whom I can rely on these matters. Any inputs will be very helpful. As I am completely new to these places. Also, since I shall be coming from Kolkata, which is the nearest railway station to these places?

Lehra Mohabbat is close to Bathinda ~30 kms or so
Ropar is almost at equal distance from Chandigarh Panchkula and Mohali which should be around ~70-80 kms
Bhatinda is Bhatinda A well known city in Punjab itself.
You will find cheap places to stay at all these locations ( being small towns as compared to kolkata ) rent is roughly ~3000 for a single room house on single occupancy
Ropar definitely is a good option if the choice is in your hands Bhatinda and Lehra are too hot places and the hot humid weather will last till mid September atleast.
The railway stations that I have mentioned are the closest main line railway stations so you shouldn't have any problem in getting your bike from there to these places.
Haven't seen many members in xBhp from Punjab ( may be a lack of knowledge on my part ) the last I saw was a guy from Patiala or Rajpura ( don't remember the name ) which is again 80-90 kms from Ropar and more than 120 kms to Bhatinda and Lehra.
I left Punjab 2 years ago so may be you can wait for someone to see the thread and come to you.
All the best for the deputation I am sure you will love Punjab .. be it any of these three places ... I wish I too get to work with an IT company which sends on short deputation to Thermal plants

Joy is realizing you still have one more page full of new posts to go on your favorite thread while you thought you are on the last one :-)

And I thought, Punjabi Mundas were quite into riding! Yes, I I desperately want the place(s) to be likeable. Because the last time I was sent to Vellakovil, Tamil Nadu (then was not with an IT company:P), I had a very bad stay. But still I did manage to squeeze time and tour Ooty/Madurai/Pollachi/Coimbatore?tirupur/Erode and a host of other places! The traveller-tourer keeda always lurks beneath my skin!

Btw Are you a Mumbaikar/have been posted there?

And thanks a lot for the inputs dude! Would love to hear about your experience in Punjab and about the place you were located. I wish that some1 helps with some more specific inputs about the places and accommodation!

Yes these places have the railway stations by the same name except Ropar cause I think the station is called Roopnagar. But anyways it is not on the main line so you won't be taking a train till Ropar .. you will have to reach Chandigarh and from there you can ride till Ropar. As mentioned by vishalrimt Dhuri is a very good option too or may be the best one depending on the conditions as Dhuri is a railway junction but in itself is a bit small place as compared to Bhatinda.

Punjabi Munde surely are into a lot of biking but that is restricted to slow biking on bullets around the streets where you can find maximum girls ( its called gehri pronounced as gedi in Punjabi ) You won't find many tourers there since mostly they have bikes for the love of it and not out of necessity .. You will mostly see the bikers having one spare SUV in their garages
Riding there is mainly restricted to college going guys who would utilize their weekends and sometimes even the weekdays after bunking for riding off to the surrounding places.

Talking about me .. well I am a Bengali from Dehradun Uttrakhand who studied in Punjab then moved to Ahmedabad and now working in Mumbai and also looking for a switch/transfer to Bangalore or Delhi

About Punjab - you will just love it .. I don't have any specific reasons for that and those I have are mostly not advisable Moreover those things are matters of the past and I wasn't much of a sensible rider at that time .. Riding only meant fun to me and by god's grace I moved on got to learn the safe biking life.

But trust me you will love Punjab too, people are friendly, there is never a problem of good food or shelter, roads are mostly in very good shape and weather is good when the summer is gone.
            Punjab has something for everyone.

Nah bro. I'm planning not to carry my bike with me. Because I have been deputed for a year, I shall be carrying lots of luggage and will have to change trains from Delhi into Punjab again. So have spoken to GATI guys. These people will deliver the bike within 5-6 days of dispatch and I'm assuming that it will give me the time to keep my stuff and take care of my bike then! You see, I like to give my ride - undivided attention!

Wow!! That's quite a spread out map! Transfer to Delhi/Bangalore? Bro, these places are diametrically on opposite ends! Why such choice(s), if I may be allowed to ask? Come to Delhi; we'll find some time and then go for a trip in the Himachal Himalayas! Whatsay?

Bro Just make sure you have the bike's insurance all set. I don't have any personal experiences of getting bike transported but what I read in some posts are all negative reviews of these transporters. Though GATI is a big name and I don't expect such a thing from them.

Bangalore because its the best place if you want good moves in your IT career (personal thought no facts or anything) and Delhi because its close to my hometown, cheaper than Mumbai and Bangalore and my final destination for settling down ( will have to marry someday ;-) )... I feel more homely there and I am dying to ride in Himachal and Uttaranchal areas as there are hell lot of weekend getaways. I don't get to ride the bike there since its in Mumbai. So whenever I am there I would surely love to join you.

Even I don't! My bike is just 3 months new. And insurance and all papers are set. I clarified about any damage to the bike while in transit and they replied that they won't pay for the damages but will make a 'note'that will help me claim insurance. Recently one of my friends, (also on xbhp) transported his CBR 250 R from Kolkata to Bangalore. Only damage - a bent front brake lever!

I am hoping (or rather praying) for minimum damages. It is just that I will get some time after dumping my luggage (god knows where) and tend to my bike post that.

And regarding weekend rides, I am game all the time. Do come up here ASAP and I will be more than willing to partner you! See ya soon!
