the only decent cameras available on Amazon and FlipKart are GoPro and SJCAMS as far as I know. Rest all those chinese mocks which are not worth even a penny. GoPros are seriously expensive and many cannot afford. SJCAMs are good, budget friendly but these websites sell them at a premium price. I was getting a SJCAM for 6k on Aliexpress which is being sold for 8k on Indian websites and around 10k in the stores. The point to be noted is that both the Indian websites and stores import the camera from Aliexpress or the dealer who sell them on Aliexpress.

Coming to Service, SJCAM does not have a service centre in India (Based on my research. Please correct me if I am wrong.). The seller sends them to the dealer in China incase of any issues.

Keeping aside Gopro & SJCAM, Gitup is another very well known brand outside India and I have seen tonnes of reviews and videos of the camera. They offer a very decent camera at the price of an SJCAM with a couple of extra features like external mic input which is available on SJ6 Legend which costs around 16K.

Gitup Git 2 starts from Rs.7500 on Aliexpress with 1 year warranty. Incase of any problems, you can ship the product to the seller which will cost you 600 to 700Rs.

I guess Aliexpress is a good platform to buy but you have to keep in mind a couple of factors like the review of the product, the rating of the seller.

As mentioned in the earlier post by Shyam, SJCam and Gitup are two good budget products one can invest in.

I Visited the website. Its good that these cams are available in India but the price is a bit high. Git1 is available on Aliexpress for around Rs.6000 but the website sells it for Rs.9500. Git2 is 7500 on Aliexpress but Rs.12500 on the website. You can buy from the website if you don't want to take risk of importing and have the amount to shell out.

It all depends on your personal preference. I will go for Git2 as it has an external mic input facility which is very important for Vlogging. SJCAM on the other side does not have this feature. You'll have 2 options for the external mic input if you buy an SJCAM.

              1. "Di-sect" your SJCAM, drill a hole on the case, solder the 3.5mm Jack and use an external mic. (Plenty of videos on YouTube for this process.)
              2. Record video with the camera and audio with you phone or any voice recorder, mix them over the PC with a software.

if you are not worried about the audio and need only video, get a decent SJCAM SJ4000 from Amazon. A decent beginners cam without investing much. Sorted.

I had bought the Git2 from Bangood after extensive research. Got the pro pack along with a external mic, battery charger and remote wrist control watch all for around 10k. Excellent camera and i will highly recommend it to anyone looking for a budget action camera.

                  Hello all,

I'm looking to buy an action camera to record my rides that I'll be doing in Sikkim the next month. I'm just a beginner when it comes to videography. I haven't tried or shot any videos while riding. I'm an amateur who don't any expertise as far as Hel cam is concerned. I would love to go for GOPRO. I've been informed by others to get something which is affordable like SJCAM and get hands on experience, then to experiment with pro models. How should I proceed? Will be doing Sikkim next month and I'm looking forward to vlog all my rides. In the month of December, will be traveling to the White Desert, Kutch and some interior parts of Rajasthan. Hopefully Ladakh the next year. So, take all these points into consideration and suggest me the best brand. Thanks in advance.

GitUp Git2 is a good option since it has external mic support which is important for vlogging. I have also ordered one recently. I have a SJ4000 which is good but is not suitable for vlogging since either you have shout inside helmet or record audio separately on mobile and sync later. Have tried both options and they are PITA. Hence bought the Git2.

So if you want effortless vlogging do checkout Git2.

PS: Banggood currently sells it for $106.

I have finally made up my mind to go with Gitup Git2 due to overwhelming response from everyone. Banggood sells it for 7120 INR. I'm concerned about the warranty and replacement issues. Will I be either refunded or replaced if I get a defective product?

With action cameras, the most that can happen is a physical defect as a result of a fall or drop etc.
This is anyways not covered under any warranty.
Basically, you should buy without the hope of receiving any warranty. This is what I consider when I get any new Action cam.

BUYER'S GUIDE FOR ACTION CAMS (FOR BIKERS OF COURSE)

                            Hi Guys,
Are you aware of any buyer's guide of action cams, say in a magazine or online, (or even on this thread that I might have missed).
I'm looking to buy one, interested in spending INR 4k-12k on it. (preferably less, unless the expensive one is awesome VFM)
                            Priorities being :
                            1. ruggedness (resistance to impact, heat, and long constant recording),
                            2. battery life
                            3. reasonable quality (should be able to read numberplates).

                            I found some on amazon.com:
                            Like:
1.YI Action Camera (US Edition) White
                            2. Apeman Action cam

While there are tons of comparison tests for bikes, droning on about the same things that every other reviewer says, I found few comprehensive tests for a variety of these.

Alternately, could you guys suggest me some good ones please?

                            Thanks.

Hi everyone, one thing that made me tense/confused after getting an action cam was securely fitting it on to the helmet (nobody wants to drop the camera while doing 80kmph+ speeds). You get curve adhesive mounting base with your camera but there is always a GAP as the radius of curve base never matches the radius of the curve of your helmet surface. So thought of sharing this video which will help fellow riders in securely mounting their action camera on there helmet in a clean & neat manner.
