  • The Musician thread!

Let's have this thread to find even more familiar ground amongst us brethren! We love bikes, yes! We love music too! How many musicians are there in this forum? Lying dormant, as the wheels keep turning? My name is John, I play bass and backup guitar. Based in Chennai, and would love to connect with fellow biker musicians here! I was born a metalhead, but slowly matured to almost all genres of music. I love progressive metal. A few bands i listen to and cover are Alter Bridge, Tesseract, Dragonforce and Iron Maiden.

Please do introduce yourselves, and maybe we might even have an xBhp band!

Thanks for sharing that. It was wonderful to read about her.

Though, you probably didn't notice a 'Big Grin' smiley at the end of my statement, i.e. do not take me seriously I do not have any physical handicap, it is a joke my friends started in college, because i couldn't differentiate between Mozart and German metal (?) That is why when people start talking music i walk away

Welcome Musician Member...Good to know that you play accompaniment and Bass . Playing bass is tough but lends the body to any music. Do you play fret less bass guitar? Which is the make of Bass guitar you use with what pickup ?
I used to be involved with some of the Chennai bands in the 70s and 80s, as Electronic instrument support guy....there used to be regular competitions and used to be challenging to watch them play from Deep Purple ,Kiss ,Beatles,,The Who., The Cream etc., Those were the days of Wah-Wahs, Fuzz, Traveller, Fender Blenders....I do miss those days now. I guess you are using a Peavey amp...If available, try the Fender Bassman bass amp with speakers100 watts RMS with 4 x 15 inch bass units..
              Good Luck

Hi @psr sir! I've actually spoken to you before, about the CBR, you pointed me to Mr. Rajesh at JSP.

I play a Yamaha RBX 5 string fretted bass. Stock Yamaha pickups, active ones. However, i use a series of bass pedals, they are; Hartke Bass Attack(preamp), Dunlop Cry Baby(Bass Wah), Big Muff(Bass distortion) and a Boss delay/Phase Shifter pedal. Looking to bring in a chorus pedal sometime, but most of my old band mates are married now, and with the additional responsibilities, dont have time to meet too often.

The Peavey amp is in a friends Jam room. I use a Hartke VX410 Amplifier with a HA2500 bass head, it's very heavy so i cant carry it around. Hence the Hartke Bass Attack preamp.

Our favorites from the 70s and 80s are Whitesnake, Alice in Chains, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple and Extreme!

I have played a fretless bass only once, at Vellore when we opened for the band MotherJane from Kerala. It was bliss! But real expensive though! However, i did see a DIY on youtube on how to make a fretted bass to fretless. Will probably try it on my old Givson bass!

Back when i started, the only options were Givson guitars and Stranger amps, they were awesome at that time, and we really had a lot of fun! But as the times change, not only do bikers have a wide range of options to choose from, so do musicians!

Would love to meet up someday sir! Even though i'm a metalhead, i do love music as a whole.

You are using Good adaptive system for amplification . You Play Pluck or Slap or plectrum bass ? If you get time do see live performance of group by name " RUSH".esp., the song Tom Sawyer . It is available in HD.....they belong to the 80s and have been invoked into the Rock Hall Of Fame...

                  Good Luck

Yep! I know RUSH. They were my dad's all time favorite band . I only use the pluck and slap methods, i personally dislike using a plectrum because it just ruins the dynamics of the output tone. An example of a person using all three techniques is "flea", bassist of thr Red Hot Chilli Peppers. His dynamics are really something else.

Sounds good to me..A little more practice and you have made it...which Fuzz/Sustain unit do you use.....I see a humbucker as the last "Bridge" pickup. It should give you a really "Fat" sharp tone . Your Guitar touch also seems good...

I use Guitarrig software to play with tones and Rocksmith to learn new songs
it makes learning and practice on guitar super fun. You should try it sometime.

On the guitar part, I use the bridge humbucker.
the tone on it is very bright.

The neck humbucker is kind of heavy

I am not a musician as such but I am a big fan of EDM (Electronic Dance Music). I can do a little bit of Dj'ing. Still an amateur though. Would love to hone these skills and hoping to be a successful DJ one day.
