de-forestation,ever increasing construction etc are all hampering the ecological balance of the himalayas. take the case of a hill station , shimla
the min and max temp for 19th nov 2000 ,2002 and 2004 are as follows:
2000 - 16.9/6.9
2002 - 15.7/8.9
2004 - 16.4/10.0
the min temp ysterday was 3.1 degree above wat it was in 2000!! also for the last 5-6 yrs, there has been no/very little snow on christmas as well as new yr.wat does this mean? the global warming is effecting us , effecting our himalayas , water resources (glaciers).in a recent study,it was found that the glaciers are melting very fast and because of less snow every yr , as a result their size is shrinking.
now lets take the case of amritsar , a city in punjab (not in hills). lets compare the temp of 2000 ,2002 and 2004 (19th nov)
2000 - 26.3/9.7
2002 - 27.0/11.8
2004 - 27.0/6.0
this yr the min temp of a city in plains is less than that of a city (shimla) in hills!
the temp of amritsar is dropping every yr which is opp to that of shimla. this thing has totally confused me!! how is this possible!
neways , authorities seem to be waking up. construction has now been banned in some hill-stations..
rohtang pass , one of the most unpredicting passes , which used to close down in early nov some 6-7 yrs ago , now remains open till mid nov too. last yr it was open till dec!! now how shockin is that?
well , man is tryin to fight against nature, tryin to change the nature's rules. the day is not far , when mother nature will strike back , n that strike will prove very costly for humans..
