H50 is a prosumer and not DSLR, the cheapest DSLRs are Olympus E410, E420, Canon 1000D, Nikon D60...

The 400D is also one of the cheapest SLRs around. Although it is out of production, but it can be procured..

          • Don't buy Sony/Olympus because they look cheap on paper etc. They have well known drawbacks, stick to Canon/Nikon.

Sunny, I have used the 400D and the 40D and I can tell you there is quite a bit of improvement in the focusing, twin dials, better build etc, but I really don't find it a worthy upgrade, unless you're looking to shoot fast moving action.

You could look for a used 1d mk II, I've used it and it's awesome. Depends largely on what you plan to use it for.

I really don't feel the depreciation in value of selling the 450D is worth the cost of a 50D. (A 40D, for sure.) But then again, what do you plan to shoot?

              • all the oly e users put their NR off and shoot.that heavily impacts images.i think dpreview then tried with nr off and got good sharp results.even the forum users recommend to shut down nr.

                • Well: Olympus E-520 Review: 32. Conclusion: Digital Photography Review, Those are some heavy cons right there. Add lenses etc to the equation and things get really easy to judge.

But as always, to each his own.

considering INDIA..lens is just a BIG issue.same goes for minolta.though you can sort of get in sony showrooms..but oly has trouble for lens.

                      • hey guys help me decide

I have decided to get myself a dslr and i have zeroed in on three cameras... the canon rebel models XS and XSi and Nikon D60......i know the xsi is a slightly better cam compared to the other two.....but given the vfm and flexibility of the three cameras i am not exactly able to decide on which one to go for... Kindly suggest which would be the best buy of the three.... I am also planning to get myself a decent telephoto lens and a macro lens(if needed) in a month or two.... so tell me which is the best option of the three

                        Cheerz

                        • @anirudh:I cannot comment on the D60 but out of the two Canon cameras that you have mentioned, I would suggest you get the Canon 450D (XSi). As for telephoto lenses, there are choices galore; give us a budget and we would give you the choices - right from a 55-250mm lens to the "worshipped" 70-200mm f2.8 IS lens!

As for macro lenses, there are choices from Canon as well as third party manufacturers like Tamron and Sigma. I am using the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens and it is one heck of a glass, I say, although I would've loved to get my hands on the MP-E 65mm nonetheless!
                          :)

Yeah even i had more or less thought of a 450D only... and right now i have an option of getting a bundle offer (xsi w 18-55 lens and a 75-300mm f/ 4-5.6 III) for quite a deal..but the only thing is that the 70-300 doesnt have IS so i am kinda apprehensive about this deal...so i am not sure

I use a 400D but I got the IS lens of the 450D kit (18-55 IS) and it is a very good lens, atleast as far as the price of it is concerned. As for the 75-300mm, I do not have much idea as I haven't used it personally, so it would really not be fair to comment on the lens. Do check out reviews on the net, and talk to someone who has actually used this lens first-hand. That would give you a fair share of idea.
