Yeah! I was to get it from my cousin coming from US, but since the price quoted was less - i got it here itself..

      Hi All,

How do you carry your cameras while touring? is it in the saddlebag or tankbag? My zma doesn't have a crashguard so am afraid to put my camera and lenses in the saddlebag. Checked the tankbag but i suspect the corruption of data in memory card due to the presence of strong magnetic field. Carrying it in a backpack proves to be painful during long rides. Any suggestions?

      Thanks,

      Krishna

Even I carry my camera and lenses inside the backpack as putting it either on the tankbag/saddlebag/ or tying it with the rear seat with the help of bungee cords would surely prove disastrous for the glasses!

                        • Noob Question:

Whats is the perceptible difference as end users between having a CMOS or a CCD sensor? Case in point - Canon SX 10 IS Vs Canon SX 1 IS.
Would there be any difference in picture quality between the two cams?
And how can a layman like me percieve it?

A CMOS sensor is supposedly better than the normal CCD sensor in terms of operating speed, and mostly in reducing the noise at higher ISO's. One would expect a better picture quality with a CMOS than a CCD.

In case of SX10 IS and SX1 IS, I guess the advantage of CMOS is not great when compared both.

Read this for a better Idea.

                            • @Praful: I will try to define these two things as simply as I possibly can. Image-sensor chips are the chips that capture the image in the digital cameras. These, generally fall into two main categories:

                              1. CCD or Charged Coupled Device
                              2. CMOS or Complementary Metal Oxide Semi-conductor.

It is widely believed that CCD is better than CMOS as it is much more sensitive. The result being one gets better images in low lighting conditions with a CCD sensored camera. CCD sensors also control noise in the picture very well.

But, there is this other side too. CMOS sensors are less expensive to manufacture, hence, the camera which uses a CMOS sensor WILL be priced much less than a camera which uses a CCD sensor. Also, another point which should be kept in mind is CMOS chips are not that power hungry, while CCD chips are. So, one can shoot longer periods of time before replacing/ recharging the camera batteries. But, anyways, this 'shooting time' is a subjective thing. It all depends on how many shots you usually click.

But, the crux of this discussion is this: CCD sensors would provide one with better pictures than the CMOS sensors.

                              EDIT:
I see Ravi's post (above) and my post are contradictory to each other!
                              :)

But I read this which says there difference in performance as such! The difference lies in the way work.

But then why is it that only the higher end cam's use CMOS, where as almost all low-mid range cams use a CCD?
