The S5800 is a one heck of a camera at the price at which it is selling but then you have to do without the 'IS' feature. But at only 8000 bucks you actually get a superzoom camera. The nearest camera with similar features(10x optical zoomOriginally posted by saif71184 View PostHow abt Fuji Finepix S5800?? or Sony S950??
) would be the Canon SX100/110.As for image quality is concerned, check it for yourself.

For me, it's a superb buy as everything else seems expensive at that price point!!

New camera needed
Guys,
I need to buy a camera. It is a gift for my friend. Its a guy who wishes to own a D-SLR/pseudo SLR(Strictly no P&S/Slim models) and start learning with it. I would like the budget to be around 20K. Will be getting it from US, so I can check out for any good deals on the model thru AMAZON/NEWEGG etc. Suggestions invited!!Democracy is when 2 wolves and a sheep meet to decide who is for dinner. These are probably the cheapest DSLR deals you can find:

^^Synn, still pretty wide awake I guess!!!! Anyways, I need new ones Synn. 20K is a pretty lo-budget for new D/pseudo SLRs? And any SONY's in this range? (My friend is a slight brand afficiando too....
)

Working to meet deadlines, actually.
Refurbished ones are pretty much as good as brand new cams, actually. They come in a box with manufacturer warranty and are usually display pieces that have gone back to the factory.
If you must get brand new, then a bridge cam like the Panasonic FZ28, the Nikon P90 or the Sony DHC H10 (which falls well below your price limit Bargain City) are the obvious choices.
If you must get a DSLR, the Sony Alpha range is about to get updated, so you may be able to get the A200 at clearance prices in a month or so.

Thats right Synn, I myself own a refurbished laptop from DELL. Its pretty good! But you know how gifts are!!!Originally posted by Synn View PostRefurbished ones are pretty much as good as brand new cams, actually. And a price point from 20 - 25K is fine with me. So I guess I will stick to new cams.
The SONY seems to be a good choice.Originally posted by Synn View PostIf you must get brand new, then a bridge cam like the Panasonic FZ28, the Nikon P90 or the Sony DHC H10 (which falls well below your price limit Bargain City) are the obvious choices.
So since the Alpha range is to be updated the A200 will be sold off to clear stocks and so would be cheap, right? Let me check both options. Thanks mate...Originally posted by Synn View PostIf you must get a DSLR, the Sony Alpha range is about to get updated, so you may be able to get the A200 at clearance prices in a month or so.Last edited by Aparajith; 05-11-2009, 09:59 AM.Democracy is when 2 wolves and a sheep meet to decide who is for dinner. I will suggest panasonic Lumix LZ8 over canon a470 anyday. If you have to get a canon, go for a590IS or any model having IS (image stabilization). Check LZ8 too. My friend in office just bought one with 3 years warranty for 5200rs only (from ebay!). So far the camera is great, as shown by online reviews too:

Canon A480 ..thats what I bought some days ago...and I'm very much content with it....although the looks may nt be that impressive but yea once you operate the cam..you will fall in love with it...comes with auto ISO...and macro and super macro shot as well....and I was amazed to see the macro quality althoughnot as good as SLR cams but very much satisfies...
and regarding panasonic have not much idea.its all about CC...

Congrats addy! How much did you pay for the cam? Once you get comfortable with the camera, go for CHDK. One tip, keep the ISO at 80 or 100 all the time. Maybe in night you can bump it up, but else keep it at 80 only.
All the best!

thanks mate. i paid Rs 10,700 for it. i was keen on getting the cam from the grey market but my parents suggested to go with bill and warranty even if we have to pay more and moreover i got a 2 year warranty so i am pretty happy with it.Originally posted by animeher View PostCongrats addy! buddy i am a rookie in photography, so what exactly is ''CHDK''?
and i hav got two AA cells in the box and also 4 Ni-CD rechargable batteries with the charger. i wanted MI-Mh but it was not on the offer list but wil get them soon. Can you please tell me if i can use normal cells or do i need to use duracells or energizer? how many shots wil the normal cell take?
and lastly please tell me tips and tricks so that i can take out the most from the camera.
regards
