This is not an entry-level DSLR Raj. It is almost a semi-pro. The imaging system is directly taken from EOS 7D (except for speed and some high end features). This has the best movie mode of all the current DSLRs, not to mention the excellent 18mp sensor.Originally posted by kkrk2 View Post

Semi-pro??? .......... lol. Any DSLR without a pentaprism and remote-strobing facility can never be called a semi-pro!!! Probably the 600D can be passed off as a semi-pro body!!!

Having a pentaprism will not give you any edge in picture quality, except for better viewfinder. 550D is an excellent package and the price at 40k is very much justified. 550D is more versatile than a D90 with superb movie mode with all manual control of exposure. The imaging system is directly taken from 7D, a semi-pro. It was over priced, and now it is appropriately priced!!! If it comes to around 25K (+/- 2k) then I would say its a super deal!!!

The MRP of 550d after 600D was introduced is reduced to 40k from 50k. It is retailing everywhere at 37-38k in India. The deal on e-bay at just 33k, with two years warranty, along with a 18-55mm IS lens, is very very good deal.
The 1000d that reliance digital sold at 10.5k is a refurbished model which was used as a display model for quite sometime.

At this stage, absolutely!! Especially when canon has placed the 600D between 550D and 60D!!! Hey guys i have a query i'd like to ask you..
I will be taking away our family DSLR this summer and my parents will become "shutterless"
so they are thinking of getting an entry level Point and shoot.
They've left me to decide the cam and i want your advice.

Welcome to the age old feud between Canon and Nikon-mine is better than yours.
How do we classify a camera as professional, semi-professional, entry level or anything else? Camera cost depends on features. I have best of Nikon cameras and lenses but I am not a professional. I do not make any money out of my photography. Then there are many professional photographers that make thousands of dollars using basic cameras. You know, horses for courses.
Have anybody given any thought for mirror less cameras like Panasonic, Olympus, Sony? I am sure the future of photography belongs to mirror less cameras. Anybody interested in buying first DSLR should also look at mirror less cameras.Comment
