The Nikon D3100 though priced above the Canon 1100D comes with a larger screen, a 1080p full HD video mode, higher maximum ISO, more AF points and a more powerful built-in flash. I would suggest going for that. The only minus point is the lack of an AF-motor. Ergonomically it's better than the Canon plus Nikon's easy interface is much easier to get the hang of for people who are new to DSLRs.Originally posted by melbin View PostYes the image quality is superb, but canon 1000d is 2008 model, cost effective one,I think within one year it should be discontinued, that is why i don't listed 1000d,thanks any other options??
Best thing is to go to a shop and use both the cameras first hand. And decide which one you like.

It means that older lenses that do not have an inbuilt motor will not autofocus on the D3100. You have to manually focus them. Though most of the new Nikkor lenses have a motor now. Some are comparatively expensive than their Canon counterparts.Originally posted by melbin View PostHow it affect d 3100??sigpic

So, you have got it! Congratulations!! Thats a good deal at 33k. Not available at this price right now anywhere (that I know). Happy clicking and post some beautiful pics.Originally posted by Rony View PostFinally received my Canon 550D via eBay yesterday. First Impression : Since I have never handled a DSLR so closely, I feel its huge in dimensions but not as heavy as it appears. With the 18-55 IS kit lens it weighs almost 650g. The grip is nice and sturdy. Took couple of snaps with various modes. I was taken aback by the clarity of pics as seen on the super clear LCD. Need to spend more time with it. As per first impression, I am glad that I spend 33k on it
Now I need to buy a 8GB class 6 SDHC card, an UV filter and a camera case. Thinking to visit jjmehta's shop today.

Guys I am thinking abt a <25k cam and I have short listed Nikon P100 and Nikon P500... Both are high end point and shoot cam with 26x and 36x zoom, CMOS sensors,High speed video shooting and in-built HDR capability .... I was thinking abt FZ38 but the price point is not justifying the features on offer and also I am not happy abt panasonic Low light photography as it it gets a lot grainy at higher ISO... So my choices are
Nikon P100 - 20k
Nikon P500-24k
Panasonic FZ38- 28k
Abt DSLR as a option , I feel it might be too much for me to handle as of now .... upgrading from a basic cam to a DSLR and I am not comfortable with carrying around luggage and lenses around while travelling, I would like to be ready for a macro shot in one moment while all set to take something else at a distant ... So as of now I would like to stick to above options

Buy a DSLR, use the auto mode and it still produces better images than a higher end point and shoot. If you can operate a high-end consumer camera manually, you can do the same with a DLSR. With a budget of around 25K, go for a DSLR and do not look at the point and shoots (unless you want a bigger zoom in a compact body).Originally posted by roshan3440 View PostGuys I am thinking abt a <25k cam and I have short listed Nikon P100 and Nikon P500... I tried my hand at basic canon DSLR and found out that I cant take macro using basic 18-55 lens(need clarification on this ) .... which means i need to carry a macro lens with me and changing lens has some risk involved and time... Zoom though i feel is not a requirement at all times but at times can be handy ...Most DLSR users recommend DSLR over high end P&S camera..... I AM CONFUSEDOriginally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostBuy a DSLR, use the auto mode and it still produces better images than a higher end point and shoot. .....
Which factor plays important role in capturing images, is it the CMOS sensor or the processor which processes the light captured by the sensor ? Is the processor on a basic DSLR better than those on High end P&S camera ? Is the contrast clarity on a Basic DSLR better than high end CMOS P&S etc etc ... though on price point Canon 1000D and Nikon P500 are neck to neck .... hence finding it tough to take the calltour-master on exile

i want to purchase a good camera for myself.
i want something better than point and shoot cameras but not as complicated and costly as a DSLR. it should have DSLR like functions with the ease of point and shoot cameras. and it should have very good optical zoom (more than 15x). it should also have very good anti-shake and anti-blur kind of features which i believe is best in sony. price range is Rs. 25,000.00/= max.
i have shortlisted--
SONY DSC HX1
&
SONY DSC HX100V
please tell me how are these cameras and which is best among them. also any other cameras in this price range which are worth considering.
(Note: i have used 2 sony camera's and one nikon and one cannon in the past, all point and shoot, and i beliieve that electronics and software part of sony is very good, and nobody provides anti-shake feature like sony. anti-shake and anti-blur feature of cannon and nikon is not as good as sony. i know that nikon gives real life like colors but it is of no use if the picture is blurred. sony also gives a lot of other fancy features like anti blink etc. etc. i am heavily biased towards sony)
also tell me if there is any other camera which is as good as these two, with additional feature of hotshoe for attaching external flash.
my wife is going to US, so may be i will get it a bit cheap there, just a little bit worried about warranty issues, but i guess sony gives worldwide warranty.

Hey man, i agree to your point as in point and shoot camera sony is the best as i myself used Sony DSC H50 camera for more than 2 years. its a cross breed kind of camera with 15x zoom you may say and features are better than ordinary camera.
I used Sony DSC HX1 and i found it quiet good and light as compared to my existing one. dint got a chance to try other one. Also the CMOS sensor does judgement for the price it asks.Last edited by shrinathrao; 05-10-2011, 04:44 PM.

I would suggest you P500, just read reviews on international sites and then decide. Make sure it has EVF ...I saw some superzooms are now w/o EVFs, including a Nikkon, absolutely useless in bright sunlight outdoor shootingOriginally posted by roshan3440 View PostGuys I am thinking abt a <25k cam and I have short listed Nikon P100 and Nikon P500...
