has anyone bought a 'mirrorless digital camera' ? is it sony or olympus who launched it first ? I love olympus' innovation but sony DCs are very good, b/w these two which would be the best ? (mirrorless..)?

I have two digital cameras from US of A:
1. Fuji S5100
2. Canon A610
both bought new in 2005 and


Both work without any issues just that they are worn out physically.

BTW, I also have a Pentax S50 bought in 'used condition' in 2010 from ebay but might have been made around 2005.

This one takes good pics but has a faulty flash and a black spot on the screen thats due to a fall. But the pics come out well.


The thing is, if you buy a branded camera and use it properly, other than regular wear, a camera can last at least 3 to 5 years.

Almost all the mirrorless cameras available today are good. There is nothing like 'the best'. Depending on your requirements you choose the one which comes close.

For me, The panasonic G1 is the best bet. Available for around $500 including a kit lens. It has, a built-in flash, a high-resolution EVF which comes handy for using on the manual focus lens. Only lacking thing is the IS/OS which I can live with. The oly has EP1 has in-built IS but no flash or VF. The Pany GF-1 has built-in flash but no VF. The sony NEX or the Samsung has APS-c sensor but did not read good reviews about them and heard about some issues with 'certain' manual focus lenses.

So it all depends on what you are looking for in a camera???

Has any one in xbhp used a Panasonic lumix DMC FZ-100 please give suggestion to buy it or not i'm new to photography is it a right pick

^^ you can also consider SONY CYBERSHOT DSC-HX100V, similar camera with similar facilities and lower price. i guess panasonic is available at 499$ and sony is at 449$, however i purchased from USA on independence day so i got it at 399$ and with tax etc, total at 427$.

also consider that if using in india, panasonic service and support may not be upto mark, whereas sony is an estabilished brand in india.

the differences between the two are- better features are provided in sony, so in stock configuration sony is better, i guess. but panasonic has options to fit additional lens/filter/flash etc....so it is slightly expandable.

choice is yours.

i don't think anybody is using it in xbhp, but my wife has purchased it one month back in USA, she will come here on 7th, then only i can lay my hands on it.

regarding your second question, we two are in similar boats my dear...i also wanted to pursue photography as a hobby, since my college days, but till now i only had a point and shoot camera, so not much scope there. that is why i have purchased this sony camera, so i can try some manual functions and try new things. i did not went for an SLR, because apart from me my wife will also use it, since my point and shoot camera is not working properly. so i went for this one.

if you want to use seperate lens and filters in future, then u buy panasonic otherwise sony. and also check the availability of panasonic compatible lens/filters in india.

don't worry too much, there are always auto mode in both these cameras, just in case you find manual modes too difficult.
