Hey Prakash as you can see from below the lag is jumping from 100 ms to 1000 ms and then to 5000 ms, which is very very high...
And since all the 3 IPs are from your BSNL A-class i suggest you start bugging them with this trace out put, anyways most probably is this was a temporary issue and must have been resolved by now...Originally posted by prakash_mvpa View PostCode:5: 125.21.167.29 (125.21.167.29) 100.052ms asymm 6 6: 12.86.240.17 (12.86.240.17) 1003.809ms asymm 11 6: 12.86.240.17 (12.86.240.17) 5902.146ms asymm 11

Yes I tried fixing grub, using the 'grub-install' command at the terminal, it said 'no error reported.' Ok, here's the problem, Vista is installed on my Pata hdd and Ubuntu on my Sata hdd. When I boot my computer, it simply loaded Vista without even loading grub, so I changed the boot device priority in my Bios so that the sata hdd can boot first, Now, it loads Grub but it has no option for Vista. I also cant access my Pata drives from 'my computer' in ubuntu. Please helpOriginally posted by gold_heart007 View PostLinux recognizes the PATA as /dev/sda and the SATA as /dev/sdb.
Have you tried installing or fixing grub?

I have already installed ubuntu on my sata drive. Vista is in the pata drive, the problem is that ubuntu isn't detecting the pata drive. Here's what i get aftersudo fdisk -lSince grub also doesn't show vista in the boot menu, i have to change the boot disk priority in the bios everytime i want to boot into vista.Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes

I guess you have to check your bios.there is some ide "extended mode or enhanced mode" available.enable that. check through your bios options properly.
also ,what is your mobo ?is it a *VERY* new model?sometime ide controller may not be supported with stock kernel.for eg: jmicron one.
also post here the output of "lspci |grep IDE" here.

Ok. My mobo is an Asus P5GZ-MX (bought it last year). Yes i remember i have seen the 'extended mode option in the bios. I will enable it. And i will also 'ispci | grep ide' and post the result here. Right now i am on my lappy and dont have access to the desktop, so i will post it by evening....
Another thing is that my Hard disks are set as 'primary master' and 'secondary master'. Can this also be one of the reason? Should i set one of them to primary slave.

. After we have sorted this out, i will try and connect to the internet using ubuntu. I use a GPRS connection via bluetooth on my mobile. I have read up some tuts on the net, i have found some nice tuts for connecting via usb cable, but unfortunately i wasn't able to find anything decent for connecting via bluetooth. Lets see, i will update you guys whether i was successful or not.

And no yaar, no other options for net, only GPRS.
One question , the wiki link you gave me before, they use 'apt - get' to install softwares like vlc, multimedia codecs, etc. Do I need a net connection to use those commands? I have also not enabled compiz yet, does it require net connection to be installed...?

Just a couple of final questions
1. Whats the exact name of the application which i need to play multimedia files like mp3, avi, etc.?
2. Even after trying the whole weekend, i couldn't make ubuntu detect my phone as a modem. So i will be doing offline installs. Suppose i get hold of the .deb packages along with their dependencies, is it just a simple matter of double clicking on the .deb files and installing them?
I need to do all this so that I can install vlc, compiz configuration manager, etc.
