hey, if you want proper gaming, then desktop is preferred. However if you want to buy a laptop instead go for alienware or other gaming laptops. Things you will have to consider are It should have a fast processor(quad cores are now available in laptops too), intels wins here, if you want fast cpu and amd phenom II if you have a limited budget. Secondly gpu is very important for playing games, infact it has become more important than cpu these days!
So go for discrete graphic card such as nvidia gtx 460m or ati radeon(now amd radeon) 5850m!
Third is ram, ddr3 is what you will get if you buy i7, and should be 4gb or more.
Hard disk should be 320gb+(if you want to more space you can consider external hdd's too)
So before buying a laptop, do check all the above specs if you want to game at decent resolutions!!
check out alienware laptops, they can be customised as per your budget(starts from 35k or 40k), its service centre is dell(it is part of the company dell)

Dell in my opinion and experience sucks!
Atleast the service centre in mumbai sucks bigtime. I had purchased the vostro series laptop 2 years ago, it gave me problems from the begining. Firstly its hdd ws faulty, the laptop was made of metal body it gave me shocks when i touched the metal parts accidentally, i thought maybe my ground wire(of my house) is bad, so got it checked but it was fine.I gave the lappy to serive centre, told them about my problem and the only thing that they did was re-installed windows xp and drivers, did some cleanign and charged me rs.2600!!
The problem was still there, they said the model had some fault!
Now the story comes to dell streak mobile, my friend purchased it some time ago, was worth rs.28k at the time of purchase, looked good. But after 10 days or so, the screen had a huge crack inside, the glass was ok but the lcd screen had a huge crack!
Waste of rs.20k becuase the dell people said it was physical damage, and that the screen replacement will take about a month or two's time to repair as the screen isnt available in india yet, went to many shops and enquired about its spare lcd but it wasnt available anywhere. So my friend sold it for 8k!And the screen costs 11k!
Loss of 20k in just 10 days, this much reliable dell is. And by the way the dell streak phone has a fault, its glued directly with the lcd(the gorilla glass is glued to the screen), so everytime you use touchscreen, your screen also sufferes from pressure and hence the crack!
I say buy hp or other brand.Alienware is good though.
And ya, for netbooks wait for amd fusion processors, they have amazing battery life and performance. Amd just released it, so will take time to appear on netbooks and notebooks!

get the inspiron 14R. If you can extend your budget a little further, get the studio 15.

haven't heard anything of that sort from dell. Have heard of a few battery problem issues, but not too many though.
HP is however known to have battery problems, pretty soon, sometimes even before the warranty period is over
yup. its the warranty. I think the difference from others is that it includes accidental protection too. Not sure though.what is this 3 year cover? warranty? how does it differ from other brands?
Not sure if they provide a DVD, but surely they give you a license. A 'genuine product' sticker would be attached on your lappy containing the installation key. So even if you get a pirated copy of the DVD and install using this key, it is still genuine. Nothing to worry there.Originally posted by ceasar View Postalso do they provide a genuine Win 7 DVD along with lappy? i was told that they provide a WIN 7 DVD along...not sure whether genuine or pirated...
P.S. I did some research on this one. posted on many tech forums and listened to the responses. For an average joe user, an i3 is would suffice. It is capable of handling moderate gaming + somewhat heavy applications like photoshop simultaneously. Unless its gonna run very heavy applications like 3DS max or maya and more applications theres no point in getting an i5 or i7.

^thanks for the help. I3 is more than enough for an average user, yes. My bro is buying a laptop so that he can do some learning on DB and SQL, anyway Dell 15R has good configuration and it can be future proof to some extent as well(graphic card included). So guess i'll tell him to go with Dell.
