    Now, I don't know whether it is the graphics card or the RAM modules..Bloody hell, the strategy games (Warcraft, AOE-III, SPORE) work like a charm but when it comes to graphics/ PC intensive games, the PC just seems to gives up! Heck!
    If the GPU is heating up and you dont want to buy a new card then I suggest you buy this beauty:
    Arctic Cooling
    Saw it in SMC international(nehru place) when I was in Delhi. Best bang for the buck.Bought it for 1300rs for my friend's 7800. The card now runs 10-15% cooler than with the stock cooling.

        did you try Viva from Coolermaster?? Actually, its best for 7 and 8 series Nvidia cards!

        @aryan,
        Artifacts in GRID. Ok, care to mention the display settings along with the GPU drivers version?

          Btw, even my dad is when it comes to appliances. However, Jazz is the only model beating every other company's model within segment (Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Philips etc.)! Not to mention the poor Sony using pathetic Samsung CCFL tubes!! hehee..

          About the Philips DVD player. Go on, lemme know the excact model. Its just i own one and can even play typical avi files or mp4 files. Just play regular DVDs without fuzz!

          just run 3d mark 06 with your card.compare your score with the standard test results.and you can find out if your card is running old.
          or just go out there and buy an ATI 4 series.
          anvancy.
          @aryan,
          7900 series is already obsolete. And soon will be 8600 series. GTS is already dead. GT is still kicking due its gr8 VFM ! As for 3DMark 06 scores, they never-ever depict the "time to exchange your card" thing! IMO, 3DMark 06 rely mostly on better CPUs rather than GPUs. Vantage on the other hand is much better.
          See, u were able to complete Crysis, COD4, NFS-W with that card. Right? Plus, GTX is no ordinary model. You can still push it to limits! Plenty of power under the hood.
          However, the only thing is that, its technology and engine is already out-dated! No latest DX/O-GL support either.
          You've a problem with that, change it and go for a 9800GTX! Pretty nice card.
          About the artifacting, u can try ATi-Tool, to detect whether your card artifacts at which core/mem clocks. Its the best out there.

          @aparjith,
          Thanks buddy.

          Ok, foa... Texture artifacting can occur anywhere on the screen, my frnd. It doesnt matter, whether user is playing games or not.
          Now, from the info, u have given, its confirmed that u've been continuously getting the UDF-7 model. So, try this.
          RMA the card, along with the direct mentioning to Rashi and pleaing for a UDF-3 model in return, if possible.

          • @gold heart: I know that the GTX is not "just another model". Infact, it was the top of the line 7 series card when it was launched. However, because of the problems that it has been giving me recently, I am thinking of upgrading the GPU to a better one; perhaps a 9800GTX or even the GeForce GTX260 (although I am pretty sure the 260 would cost upwards of 25k which is a little over my budget, really)...

            As for the display settings are concerned, I generally play the games (any game) at 1024X768 with all settings cranked to the top; display driver version is 178.24.
            :)

            • Another little experiment (if it can be called that) which I did last night was, I took out the graphics card (GeForce 7900GTX) from my newer system and put it on the older system which I used to run before I got the new one (relatively speaking, of course). The 'old' system runs on a P-4 with 4GB of RAM.

              Surprisingly, after I installed the GPU on that machine, and booted up GRiD, Crysis, BiA-Hell's Highway, they ran without any kind of texture artifacts or locks/ freezes, albeit slow frame rates (probably the CPU is a bottleneck). But, this baffles me, really. I thought probably the GPU was getting overheated because of which the games were crashing on the newer PC, but then if the GPU was really overheating, then how come the old PC is able to run these games without any problems!!?? Damn!

              So, that brings me to another probable conclusion - Is the cooling of the new system not enough? Is it possible? Or is there some kind of incompatibility between the motherboard and the graphics card? I am really confused at this moment..

                i think the dvd player of philips is that 5996k.but what the hell.you know everything.i am a fan of yamaha acoustics.
                for me any of these would do.

                @aryan:may be in your new system the space is congested.buy one of those cooler masters 120mm fans.

                  2 x 1 GB and 2 x 512 MB DIMMs.
                  Here's an article explaining it:
                  Coding Horror: Dude, Where's My 4 Gigabytes of RAM?

                  Install it in the following way:
                  1.The RAM slots in your mobo will be having 4 slots in pair of two,each pair will be of different color.Let's say green and blue.
                  2.Put the 2 modules of 1gb in the green slots.
                  3.Put the 512 modules in the other two slots.

                  Tadaaa.....you now have three gb running in dual channel.
                  Of course you can go for Vista 64 if you plan to use 4 gb.The driver support is all right if your PC's components are of reputed brands.
                  thanks for all the info Nightwing!

                  My MoBo is Asus M2NPV-VM

                  Processor is AMD 64 X2 4400+

                  HD is Seagate

                  So now...will Vista 64 run comfortably? Also is there Win XP 64?

                  Another question..... After the installation of 64 bit Os will all the programs that I currently have, run without any problems?

                  Thanks!

                      What graphic card are you going to buy? If you want to run Vista smoothly you need a dedicated graphic card and a fair bit of RAM.
                      Yes,their is a Windows XP 64bit.
                      Most of the applications can run on Vista 64 and so will the newer games like Crysis and Bioshock. But make sure you get the right drivers for your components.

                            Im gonna be in the market for a new desktop soon.
                            Do i wait for the AMD Phenom prices to creep lower or should i consider Intel's quad..?

                            NOTE : Im a hardcore AMD fan thanks to the Athlon i have been using on my desktop since the past 5 years
                            Also, Ive read that the Phenom is architecturally superior to Intel's..
