      Motherboard - Intel DG33FBC
      RAM - 2 + 2 (4GB 533Mhz)
Graphics card - XFX Geforce 512MB 8600 GT

Get 64 bit vista or xp. Both will utilize the full 6GB of ram you have and both would be running almost all of your software. Otherwise you are just wasting 3GB of you ram at a minimum. You can always have a additional installation of xp/vista 32 bit on the same machine and could dual boot between the two.. Nowadays a lot of apps are coming with 64 bit support.

But the main question is, will the games run on a 64 bit operating system?

What would you call this config then?

                CPU 2xXeon 2.5Ghz @ 800MHz FSB
                RAM 4x2GB
                HDD 1x1TB + 2x 750GB + Some 300GB and 160GB HDDs
GFX 8800GT w/ 512MB RAM and 2x DualLink DVI Ports
                Motherboard w/ Onboard GFX Card
Monitors: 1x LG 24" WS Running on DVI->HDMI, 1xBenq 19" on DVI & 1x LG 19" CRT on onboard VGA all running at the same time..

PS: As for games running on 64bit, I suppose most newer games should run w/o any problems on either XP or Vista 64 bit.. Frankly, it is better to get a vista 64 bit and a xp 32 bit.. The 64bit vista would run most software and for the few games and other high performance stuff that would not run on 64 bit vista, dual boot to a 32 bit xp partition..

                • Here is a small tip for all of you who are running LCD monitors, or planning to get LCD monitors.. Get a monitor with either DVI or HDMI input and ensure that your gfx card is capable or running the monitors using DVI/HDMI. The improvement in picture quality, when you move from VGA to DVI is significant.. The only problem being that most of the cheaper LCD screens do not come with a DVI or HDMI input..

                  • @no1: Is that your machine's configuration? Don't tell me you don't play games! Because if you don't, I don't know what you would use all that raw power for (apart from probably some high-end 3D modelling and the likes)...
                    :)

I use a simple laptop.. I do not really require all that power for my work..

That is my brother's and dad's machine.. Bro does audio recording and production primarily.. Although one of the reasons for getting this was to play games, i suppose.. He got himself a xbox controller also to play games w/o screwing up the mouse and keyboard..

8 cores is more than what most games can make good use of

PS: If anyone is looking to get a 8 core xeon machine, then skip getting it assembled and just get a mac pro.. The config of the mac pro is nice, it can run windows and it also runs the excellent mac os.. I had hell of a time trying to get this system assembled properly and to get running..
